I stopped here and recall the singles selection limited and while they did have a few neat imports, didn't really cover as broad of a spectrum as other places in town. Didn't see not many if any high end releases but maybe they were picked over. I had stopped at other places earlier so it was unfortunately no sale for me. It would be a good place if I was in the immediate area and wanted a regular issue beer in particular. With all the other alternatives in Madison, I more than likely won't be back.

I agree with the previous reviewer, this place is pretty good. I has a very nice selection of imports, including a 6 pack of Belgians that had stuff like Piraat and Goulden Draak. Plus, they had a great selection of Wisconsin brews with other solid brews from Michigan, Minnesota and other Great Lakes states. The had some bombers of Two Brothers Hop Juice and some others that I had not seen at Steve's. Plus they had quite a few Mikkeller brews. There single selection is small and fairly average. I did however, pick up a couple singles of Central Waters Y2K. All in all, a pretty decent place.

Update - February 16, 2008:

I'm bumping up quality from 3.5 to 4.

Warehouse Liquors is now Liquor Baron and they are beginning to stock some pretty great stuff. They are currently the only store I know of in Madison to stock a hefty selection of Mikkeller, including Blackhole, Stateside IPA, and Draft Bear. Their Belgian selection is still small and their singles cooler could use improvement but as far as regional six packs go they pretty much have them all.

If this place keeps improving it could become a must visit liquor store in Madison.

Old Review from 9-16-05:

Back in the days before I had been to Star Liquors on Willy or Woodman's on Milwaukee, this was where I bought good beer on the Eastside of Madison.

When the owner/manager is there, he is super helpful and in the past has gone out of his way to order beers that I wanted. A few years ago for instance, I went on a New Glarus Belgian Red kick but couldn't find the beer anywhere in Madison. This place tracked down a case for me in a couple days at a reasonable price.

For this, I would give the service higher than a 4.0 but some of the monkeys who work there are less helpful and always stressed out because of the gangbanger children that hang out in front of the store.

Seriously, I have to take pitty on the guys who work at this place. They have to put up with a lot of bunk. The last time I was there, there were at least fifteen 15-16 year-olds standing around the side of the store. The shop clerk stood in front of the store to keep them out but when he went in to ring me up, 4 or 5 of the punkasses snuck in to the store and started trying to grab 40's. He had to chase them out. They were pretty intimidating little buggers and this detracts from the quality of the store as far as I'm concerned.

The quality of the beers on the other hand are good. I've never had problems with buying a dated beer at Warehouse and I think that its helpful that if they have a beer, it's in a cooler.

The prices are reasonable and the selection is better than anywhere else on the Eastside accept Woodman's. They have all the Wisconsin micros including sometimes hard to find South Shore and Viking. You'll also find plenty of other good beers from the standard non-Wisconsin places like Three-Floyds, Rogue, Great Divide, Fort Collins, and Two Brothers.

Perhaps the best stop on Madison's further East side (not so much a compliment as a critique of the the truely absymal beer scene on that side of town...head to the westside, or downtown or near east/Willy Street area if you have a choice).
Pretty good variety of beers. Any WI brew that can be had in Madison is found here. Everything that isn't in the cooler is displayed haphazardly in mini-isles. There are a few unique Belgians to be had. Lots of Rogue. Moderate single selection. Average prices.
Decent, but there are better stops around here.
