Great store. In for a biz trip, I wanted to stock up on some local goodies. They had a huge selection, tons of singles, and very good prices, and selection of imports and other rarities, such as fantome's between $12-14. I especially appreciated that I could get lots of 12 oz bottles and get more variety for my luggage space and dollar. Single cans also. Nice folks with a good laid back vibe, I'll definitely hit this joint again!
extrachars...need to pad...hmm, the owner is apparently a dead head, bonus points there. Tons of wine and liquor as well, just overall a huge alcohol selection.

One of the best liquor stores in MSP. I was really impressed by the general selection and even more by the selection that they recently unveiled during their cellar sale.

They have a massive selection but they do not always watch their stock and some of their stuff can get old - a three year old bottle of Uerige is going to taste like wet cardboard no matter what.

Zipp's is definitely one of the best liquor stores in the Twin Cities. They have a great selection of limited run beers, but they also have good prices on stand-by craft beers like Sierra Nevada and Summit. They have a really nice make your own 6 pack selection, and a clearance section of outgoing seasonals if you want craft beer but you're on a budget. Strong selection of liquor and wine as well, although I spend less time in those sections of the store. They do tastings pretty frequently.

Visiting from out of town. They didn't have any Surly. They had a pretty good selection of other things. We were driving around the city and visited several shops. Stopped here and didn’t buy a thing. They are obviously above average, and there is truly nothing wrong with this place. I’m really mostly baffled by how highly they are rated on here.

This place is just as advertised as it should be: a massive liquor store somewhat near the U that will house a large selection to choose from.

They have room temp and cold storage. Tons of locals to choose from as well as the region. Thought their Belgian section was good. Again, a lot of the same labels you see in other places but the difference was they had all of them at Zipp's rather then hitting a couple spots to fill up.

Large selection of singles as you'd expect. Even a bargain bin if your tempting fate that day. Liked that they had some more obscure local brewers, even some nano. Also they have an extensive cellar in which they release vintages during special events so it's worth it for the locals to keep an eye on the place.

I come here every now and then when I want to avoid the 94 west traffic from my commute home from work. They have an amazing beer selection, especially in carrying the rarities of beers you will not find in a store anywhere near besides The Four Firkins.

Due to it's location you sometimes get a lot of sketchy people in here, none that have bothered me or anything, just the kind of people that come in looking to get anything that will get them drunk as quickly as they can open their bottle.

Dogs roam the store, which I thought was cool. Then again I am a dog person so I could see it not being so cool for someone that doesn't like dogs.

The staff seems to be knowledgeable about the beer, only the guys though. Maybe I just haven't talked to their beer girl connoisseur yet.

Great selection once again if you are trying to find something that no one else can find other places.

Nice, clean place that doesn't really specialize in wine, booze or beer. They seem to specialize in all of them. Great selection of whatever it is you're looking for. Great Belgian selection - a whole side of an aisle dedicated to them. Other side has specialty bombers and cellar specials. Tyler regularly pulls beers from their cellar and sells them at extremely reasonable prices and often as discounted verticals. I think I bought a Smoked Alaskan Porter '08-'11 for $60. That was a one-time deal but those sorts of offerings seem to pop up quite a bit which is great I think.

They don't often throw out past-date beers but they do slash the prices accordingly and move them to their own display in the back which can be nice once in a while. If you find one past its prime on the floor they'll often give you a great price if you point it out to them.

One immediate plus - Zipp's has parking which is a big plus for the Minneapolis area. The beer is straight back as you enter. Nice organization. I bought 3 mix six packs plus a couple other big beers. Most of the 12oz singles are $1.99. Found some Great Lakes Nosferatu bottles for $0.99. Nice. Very helpful service several people ask me if I needed help and I got a recommendation on a Olvalde Ode to a Russian Shipwright. Plus, I got help carrying all my beer out. The selection is very nice. The mix six pack section beats most in the Twin Cities. This is the place to go for American craft beers. I really like Zipp's. I made my trip to the Gunflint fully stocked with great beers.

A- The atmosphere is kinda odd. It's almost like a warehouse, which is cool. Their organizational system is kind of haphazard, but it's cool, it's just hard to figure out where beers are.
Q- Quality is solid. A lot of stuff is in coolers, plenty of six packs in coolers, bombers in coolers. A great deal of beer on shelves as well.
Ser- Service is pretty good. There haven't been that many workers on the floor when I've been there, but when you could find one, they were very helpful and knowledgable.
Sel- One of the best selections I've seen. Bonus points for make your own six packs on a fair number of beers. There was a large number of bombers as well. A fair number of locals, and more broadly regional beers as well.
Val- Six packs were cheap. The make your own six packs have been a bit spendier than I imagined, but you pay a premium for the selection. All in all, one of the best beer stores I've been to.

Recently made my first stop here. I was very impressed with the prices on select items and on their basic items. Also, their staff was very customer focused. I happened to hit a day when they had a bunch of Founders for 6.99 a sixer...bought a case and wish I had bought 5 cases....also had Schell 12 packs for 9.99....looked for Schell Hefe and when they didn't have they said I could sub two sixers of Schell Hefe for the same price...(as a sidenote I ran into the same situation at a different place in MPLS recently and they said they couldn't do that)....

The beer selection in very strong and reasonably priced...Surly Hell 8.99....bought a four pack just because it was the first time I saw it reasonably priced....picked up a few other things which wreren't on sale just to support this place.

I don't get down that way often but will be looking for ways to do so in the future. My go-to TC liquor store for sure when you factor in selection, price, and customer service..

A- Looks like a typical liquor store with everything u could ever want. they beer is in the back coolers and on shelves right by the coolers

Q-Quality is great. Looks like they do alot of business. Didn't see anything out of date

Ser- Was great. I didn't have any questions but asked if i needed any help and saw them helping other customers

Sel-Selection was great. Lots of beer in the coolers and then tons of 12oz and bombers on shelves. A really broad selection and if this wasn't near the end of my trip i would of spent more.

F- didn't have any

V-very reasonable. Nothing too expensive. Very pleased

Overall i stopped in to buy some surly and found just what i wanted. Bitter brewer just hit shelves the day before i came in so i was glad to be able to pick that up as well as some big john as we ran out in Indiana. So i was impressed wth the store and would frequent it if i lived in MN

Zipp's is my go to place when I am in the Mpls/St. Paul area for beer. Always getting new things in and frankly has just as good of a selection on new releases as many of the more specialty beer stores in the Twin Cities.

Lots of coolers with sixers as well as coolers with a mixed selection of bombers. Has one of the better selections of imports around town, and always carries the top domestic products. If you see a beer somewhere else in town chances are they have it here as well. Don't let the area that the store is in deter you either. Conveniently located right off Highways 94 for those not familiar with the area.

I stopped in on Saturday, March 5th and found a nice selection of imports, including many I don't normally see in most stores. They had beers from De Dolle and Uerige, which I was looking for. They also had Trappist beers for $3.99 a bottle, which is cheaper than I usually find them for.

An overall nice selection of domestics and imports. Surly was easy to find, and they had some of the best Surly prices I have seen at $9.99 per four pack. Also a nice selection of craft singles. Stop by if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed.

I feel lucky to have this as my neighborhood liquor store. Fantastic selection of American and imported beers, all at reasonable prices. Spacious aisles, great variety, and helpful staff. I don't spend much time in the wine or liquor section; store is basically broken into thirds by those 3. A very mixed crowd; you'll often have one person buying a case of BMC in front of another stocking up on the latest limited releases.

Their mixed 6-packs are a little more expensive than some other places, but they often include things that you'd very rarely get in a mix-6 (for example, the last time I stopped by, it included 2009 FBS and '09 Founders Imperial Stout, plus every Bell's offering available, plus various Goose Islands, and so on). And they'll generally break packs up for you if there aren't singles already on the shelves. They get good supply of most of the limited releases, and often hold a bit back to pull out now and then. I frequently stop by just to see what's been pulled out of the cellar that day.

Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful, and often very willing to talk about beer or offer suggestions. And they recognize that their opinions are only opinions, and that other people might enjoy things they don't.

All in all, a great place. Only downside is that it's pretty popular among beer lovers, so the stuff that's in demand often goes faster than it does at other nearby stores.

Zipp's has a super huge beer selection. You should shop there.

And now to help me fulfill the character requirements for this review, ladies and gentlemen... Mr. Conway Twitty,

"I see the sparkling little diamond on your hand
It's plain to see that you've already got a man
I can see you're not about to fall for any of my lines
I see the want to in your eyes

Deep in your smile there's a quiet, soft desire
Like the embers of a once raging fire
You know I could light that fire again,
You know it isn't wise
I see the want to in your eyes

How strong's a band of gold
Is it strong enough to hold,
When a love has grown cold
And A woman wants a love, sweet
And warm
How many women just like you have
Silent schemes.
How many men like me do they sleep
With in their dreams
You can stay or you can go and
Although I sympathize
I still see the want to in your eyes
I see the want to in your eyes"

Was in the area so made an effort to stop by.
Nice store. Spacious. Good and varied selection. Good singles selection. Solid pricing across the board and good sales. Good parking environment, even in the winter with an excessive amount of snow.
The happened to be playing "Death Have no Mercy" from a 60's Grateful Dead concert, which may not please all customers, but it worked for me.
I didn't interact much with staff, but I also didn't need it.
I recommend a stop by if you are in the area.

This is a great store. It's got the big liquor store feel which is really fun sometimes, and it also has a specialty store selection. There are some very knowledgeable and cool people who work there, so the service is always spot on.

Good sales...you can definitely spend a lot on beer here, but you can also find some incredible deals. If there is a limited release that makes it to the twin cities, you know that Zipp's will have it.

Finally...this is one of the best intersections in South MPLS....you can get a movie at Filmzilla, Thai food at True Thai, and some beer from Zipp's on a Friday night and bask in the warmth of a perfect evening.

Of the few shops I hit up in Minnesota, this was the best.

Great selection.

Surly is ALL in the cooler. They still had some Smoke left in back, if you ask for it.

The rest of the beer is on shelves-- and it is quite a big selection. Tons of Midwest, Minnesota, and regional beers everywhere. A good selection of imports, especially Belgian (including sours).

The employees were friendly and polite. They knew their inventory and were great about answering questions.

The prices were good. Nothing seemed like it was a great steal-- except maybe the Petrus Aged Pale for $1.99 per 12 oz. (I love that beer-- and that's a great price for a sour!
Nothing really stood out as having a big markup either...

As far as it goes, I will happily come back to shop Everytime I travel through the twin cities.

OK - was shopping here for some souvenirs to take back to Texas, & I went here solely b/c of the reviews here. And I am VERY grateful they didn't disappoint! So I figured I'd say some nice stuff.

It's a liquor store, so tons of stuff I wasn't going to look at anyway, but hey, if you're in the area, they look like they'll get all your drinking needs met. Was easy to take the rail+bus to get here. Which is good b/c it was freeezing out!

Tons of regional brews (Surly, Tyranea, Bell's, plenty of others), which was what I wanted. Lots of other US craft beers & Belgians too, though I didn't pick up any - not what I was there for. They even had a special area w/ some aged beers that were recently re-put out for sale. Bombers, sixers, & singles already broken up. They were also very eager to break up any sixer that I wanted broken, which was very nice! I asked a girl working there for help, and she gave me a few more recommendations after I'd already made my initial selections.

Prices were great. Markup on singles was truly not that much considering the quality of the beer.

And service was great. The girl helping me was friendly and helpful. I told the staff I was taking it home in a checked suitcase, & they let me electrical tape & bubble wrap my beers & pack them up right in the store on a separate counter that wasn't being used.

I'll definitely hit them up again next time I'm in the area. =)

Great selection of brews from all over. I was really surprised that there was such a great selection and no frills or extra BS to lure you away for what you came for... REAL GOOD BEER. Its almost like a cultural crossroads of drinking. I was standing in line with a 12pk of SN Celebration, the guy in front of me had some Mad Dog 20/20 and EJ brandy, the chick behind me had a few choice bottles of wine and then there was four frat guys arguing with one of their brothers trying to get him to buy another case of Natties Ice instead of the 4pak of Surly Wet that he wanted.. He won in the end thank god. Great place, any BA in Minneapolis should check it out.

I think this is one of the very best beer stores I've been to, anywhere. It's hard to find fault, unless they had beer geeks engaging every customer in conversation, and maybe if the entire beer area was a walk in cooler.

Selection of regional beers was outstanding, and I saw many Belgians and beyond imports I have never encountered. But having a big selection of really interesting beers available as singles is a big one for me, the tourist. Beers outside the region seemed well chosen, like an excellent range of Great Divide and every New Belgium (both Colorado).

Finally, the place is clean for all the traffic, shelves perfectly organized. And I kept discovering new stacks and displays.

Zipp's is a huge, no frills store with a ton of liquor and beer

the entire back wall features coolers filled with beer, in addition to a couple aisles of dry storage, lots of good Midwestern stuff, the Surly line of course, nationwide micros, and some pretty random findings to include a range of Mexican micro bombers on sale for 2.99 and bombers of French Broad Rye Hopper, also 2.99 (seriously, what's that doing up here?), lots of stuff to choose from, singles available, also a shopping cart full of questionable bargain singles at sub-dollar prices, lots of empty teaser bottles spread around that I'll assume were consumed by store staff

the dude at the register was friendly, but floor service wasn't really found (or needed, for that matter)

lots of light in here, but gonna assume that rotation is good due to high traffic, and quality is probably fine

good stop in Minneapolis.

The Twin Cities area has a lot of impressively rated beer stores that for the most part are very inconvenient to visitors. The fact that they arent open on Sunday really amplifies that inconvenience.

With Zipp's being really close to the city centre, I find it hard to believe that travelling to the suburbs is really necessary.

They certainly have all the Surly, Flat Earth, Summit, etc that you could desire and the prices seemed like they were likely on the low-end of the scale. Single Surly cans were available as well, which is nice.

The store itself reminded me of Riley's here in Madison - it's location brings in lots of students, riff-raff and probably beer dweebs as well.

There were tons of bombers and singles of varying quality levels - not sure how they have French Broad bombers...that was pretty ridiculous.

My eyes perked up when i saw russian river bottles, but they were empty (yet for some reason displayed with all the other beer). These empties were spread throughout the store- somebody clearly knows the drill around this place.

It's cheap with a good location - if you're staying in the city, start here, you probably wont feel the need to venture out further.

Popped in here after going to Town Hall for a few beers. Very impressive liquor store.

This is a liquor store, meaning that most of the place is filled with booze but about 1/4 of the store has beer, and 1/4 of this store is a big selection. Just about anything you could imagine available in MN is available at Zipps and the prices are not bad at all. I picked up some surly, some Central waters, and some out of market foreigns that I couldn't get in MD.

Most of the beer were out as singles but that's OK with me. There was an entire wall of coolers that had various beers chilled in there as well as in six pack / 12 packs. I'm OK buying singles, usually prefer it.

I can't remember the guy's name but one of the workers took us in back and offered us a rare Ommengang sour, Zuur. I had actually already had it but I picked up some Surly 4 that he had squirreled back there. Very fun. I wanted to go back but I would have had to ship a box back to myself...and I didn't want to bother with that.

a VERY GOOD BEER STORE!
