Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.
Appearance: Rich, cloudy orange with massive, frothy, clingy head. Now I have to wait awhile to drink it despite pouring very slowly. Well, I guess I can keep admiring it.
Smell: Smells halfway between a fruity & spicy Saison, and a citrus & pine driven IPA. While still clearly brewed with Belgian yeast, this has a more "American" aroma than anything else Ommegang has made.
Taste: Tastes like a Saison that has been demonically possessed by Humulus Lupulus. Fruity and spicy core with crackery malts, fleshy fruits, clove, pepper and banana. Just a great Belgian malt and yeast backbone. The hops are rich with grapefruit and pine. Somewhat bitter.
Feel: Highly carbonated and effervescent. Body is on the lighter side and refreshing. Very dry finish.
Overall: Sort of a Belgian IPA, but more like a hoppy Saison. I have had a couple of attempts at hoppy Saisons before, and, while tasty, they were a little muddled and confused. This is not; this is superb and underrated on this site IMO.

This was served from the tap at Monk Beer Abbey in Royal Oak, Michigan. It arrived in one of their beautiful house snifters, showing a golden pumpkin orange coloring, and sporting a one and a half finger tall head of cream colored bubbles, retaining excellently. Patterned lacing was left around the glasses. A chill haze cut clarity, but no sediment was noted. Carbonation appeared to be medium. The aroma gave dusty pale and amber malts, thick Belgian yeastiness, bright floral and soapy hoppiness, hints of lemon cleaner, magic marker phenols, freshly cut lawn, mothballs, and a bright lactic creaminess. The taste gave much of the same, with refreshing and juicy soapy, mossy, nectary, and floral hop blends, aside a palate of crisply toasted pale malts, amber and wheaty grain grit, metallic and savory Belgian yeastiness, walnut shell and oils, Graham cracker crust, light buttery diacetyls, honey sugars, plastic phenols, and bittering citric rind. The body was medium, and the carbonation was medium. Each sip gave great cream, froth, slurp, smack and pop, due in part to the persistent head, with the mouth left thickly coated, warmed, and gentled pulled into a pucker. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank very well.
Overall, we’ve been trying to get this one under out belt’s for over a year now. Having lived an hour from Ommegang for quite some time, we always actively seek out every one of their new releases. This beer reminded us of just how incredible they are as premier brewers. The base beer is full, warming, and hearty, but what makes it fantastic is the thick layer of oily, organic hoppiness that they float overtop of it. The interplay between the decidedly Belgian malt bill and yeasty zest with the fresh floral and bitterly soapy hoppiness is both highly enjoyable and thoroughly refreshing. This was the best beer of a long night of tasting, and something we hope they will continue to stock. This is Ommegang’s most memorable in recent memory, and should encourage them to keep their hop game evolving.

Beer pours a light orange copper color. Clear but you can see little "floaties" in the beer. Finger of head. Looks like a Belgian Pale Ale in the glass. Smells of strong citrus and grapefruit peel. Definitely smells dry-hopped and lives up to the "Hop House" name. The taste is a solid Belgian pale, with a nice yeasty spice and a strong hop character. Tropical and citrus notes. The beer is very crisp and refreshing. Really great brew and a bit different from the rest of Ommegang's lineup. Definitely has the core of a Belgian ale with the American hoppyness and I really like it. It is exactly what it claims to be and I have to give props for that. I would classify this more as an IPA than pale ale however.
