12 oz bottle into a wine glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color. The head is two fingers high and white in shade. It has a very bubbly, foamy texture - even better (or worse), retention is quite good. This head just sticks to the glass, leaving huge blobs of lacing on the glass. (3.5)

Smell: It's called "Hop House"...and the hops don't disappoint. Mainly, they're of the citrusy/fruity variety. There are some solid notes of grapefruit, berries, and mango coming through. Letting it open up will bring the spicy yeast forward, as well as some breadiness. Yes, this works nicely. (3.75)

Taste: It also works down on the taste buds. Starting off with nice grapefruit notes, it quickly transitions to a spicy, bready backbone and then right into its crisp, dry finish. The balance is excellent, as expected from the brewery. It's not complex, but it purports itself very nicely: a drinkable Belgian-style pale ale with a big dose of 'Murican hops. (3.75)

Mouthfeel: Very dry, just the way I like it. While there are pockets of astringency that I don't like too much, this still manages to hit a good balance between drinkability and richness. Carbonation is nicely concealed behind the medium-full body. (3.75)

Overall: I don't think Ommegang could make a bad beer even if they tried. This simply proves that point: it's refreshing, it's hoppy, and it's rich all at the same time. And to think this isn't the freshest bottle! See, typical Ommegang quality. (3.75)

3.74/5: American hops in a Belgian-style pale ale are a great thing

Pours a hazy bright golden body with a white foamy head with good retention. Aromas are Belgian yeasty, a hint of bubblegum and tropical fruit, but largely subdued and uninteresting. Taste is surprisingly sour (I expected sweet, based on the nose) and yeasty, with hints of unripened pear and apples. Very dry. Overall not bad, especially if dry Belgians are your thing.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear straw gold with a monstrous creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is straw with some earthy yeast and a little spice.

The flavor is straw and doughy malts with stale grassy hops and a touch of fruit. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, the first sips were just stale hops and earthy notes, but as I finished the bottle more sweet fruity notes came out that were nice.
