This tastes more like a dubbel than a dark ale, and is one of the tastier ones I've had. Plum, cherry, and even notes of fig are present. Smell does not conceal the alcohol at all, plenty of phenols here. There is a slight grassy taste to it, similar to a saison, that seems to be a typical feature of many dubbels. Could be the hops, but I'm not positive. Overall, I'd say this is an above average Belgian style, better than many actual Belgians I've had. This is def a good deal at $5.69. Will I drink it again? Definitely. Will I seek it out? Probably not too often. All in all, recommended. It may be just what you're looking for, and is definitely worth a try.

Poured from a corked and caged 750 mL bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.
A: Pours a beautiful maroon color with a thick, rocky, off white head that eventually settles and caps the beer perfectly. Decent head retention with minimal lacing. This beer looks very inviting and I'm just dying to take a sip.
S: The smell consists of big dark fruit aromas (prunes, raisins, black currants), sweet malts, caramel, brown sugar, and a bit of anise. Some faint floral hop aromas are there, but barely present.
T: Taste is predominately of dark fruits and sweet malts. Anise and clove are also there with a touch of lingering yeast on the finish. This beer has a bit of a sourness to it, but it is not overwhelming and is definitely tolerable. I'm also getting an occasional slight metallic taste, which I'm attributing to the use of caramel malts.
M: Medium bodied with a crisp, chewy mouthfeel. Carbonation is on the medium side with a sweet, somewhat dry finish. Alcohol is masked fairly well.
O: Overall this is a good beer with a smooth, refreshing mouthfeel and some big fruit/malt characteristics. This is my second time having this beer, and it is definitely enjoyable. However, the first time I had it was on tap and I was absolutely blown away. I will have it again on tap someday and edit my review accordingly.
