Appearance: Cherry cola like colors. Deep dark red with a big fluffy tan head.
Smell: Cherry, malt, oak, vanilla, dark fruits, alcohol. Nice complex aroma here.
Taste: Big complex flavor, like the nose. Sweet dark fruits with vanilla and oak along with a good amount of malt up front. The alcohol comes up on the back end but not too strong. Again, nice and complex.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied but very creamy.
Drinkability: Very easy to drink. The 8.5 ABV is not a factor here and the bottle goes by very quickly. Tasty, complex, quite drinkable. Very good choice here.

Poured from a corked and caged 750 mL bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.
A: Pours a beautiful maroon color with a thick, rocky, off white head that eventually settles and caps the beer perfectly. Decent head retention with minimal lacing. This beer looks very inviting and I'm just dying to take a sip.
S: The smell consists of big dark fruit aromas (prunes, raisins, black currants), sweet malts, caramel, brown sugar, and a bit of anise. Some faint floral hop aromas are there, but barely present.
T: Taste is predominately of dark fruits and sweet malts. Anise and clove are also there with a touch of lingering yeast on the finish. This beer has a bit of a sourness to it, but it is not overwhelming and is definitely tolerable. I'm also getting an occasional slight metallic taste, which I'm attributing to the use of caramel malts.
M: Medium bodied with a crisp, chewy mouthfeel. Carbonation is on the medium side with a sweet, somewhat dry finish. Alcohol is masked fairly well.
O: Overall this is a good beer with a smooth, refreshing mouthfeel and some big fruit/malt characteristics. This is my second time having this beer, and it is definitely enjoyable. However, the first time I had it was on tap and I was absolutely blown away. I will have it again on tap someday and edit my review accordingly.
