Poured from a 750ml bottle into a chalice glass.
Pours a deep amber red with a fingers worth of tan pillowy head.
Smell is very fruity and aromatic, the aroma was very complex... I'm still not used to these styles and it doesn't really jump out there all that much yet, but still a wonderful smelling beer.. very complex smells of dark fruits, alcohol, banana, yeast, almost like a candy smell hidden in there, other scents that i couldn't make out as well... very inviting aroma in my book..
Taste is strong on malts and yeast with rich dark sugar upfront thats quickly overpowered?...banana flavors again..dark fruits..and hints of booze here and there... the taste is also complex and has so much going on that i cant even distinguish most of the flavors...a very nice taste..
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and high carbonation.
Drinkability is easy on this one... can barely notice the 8.5%ABV. Wouldn't choose to have another bottle afterwards.
Overall, this isn't a bad beer, would share with friends and drink again

Notes from after the fact. I just plain didn't jive with this beer. The licorice ruined it for me. This beer came off as tasting like root vegetables with potato and turnip. The sweetness of the chocolate malt flavor and the twang of the licorice with vegetable notes just didn't go together. Licorice and anise spice lingered long after. There were other redeeming qualities like a great body and a nice porter-like woodiness that I appreciated, but I couldn't get past the bad parts. And I'm even a fan of licorice an anise, just not in my beer apparently.
