Witte is our version of the classic Belgian wit or "white" ale. Witte, which is actually Flemish for white, is brewed with malted and unmalted wheat, orange peel, and coriander - offering a refreshing style that showcases the Belgian talent for brewing full-flavored ales that are also light and balanced. It is pale straw in color, slightly hazy from the yeast, and topped with a huge white, fluffy head.

Witte is pleasantly light on the tongue, balanced between malt and wheat sweetness. Hops and spice with a subtle clove note backed by flavors of lemon and sweet orange give way to a dry, crisp, refreshing finish.

Appearance: Pale lemon in color, with significant haziness and a large, fluffy white head. Very true to the Belgian Witbier style. Its appearance promises thirst-quenching refreshment on a sunny summer day.

Smell: Extremely fragrant. The aroma is typical of the style, but still undeniably delicious: citrus fruit, honey, and a smidgen of spicy and floral hops keep you sniffing.

Taste: Refreshingly well-balanced: the semi-sweet citrus is nicely countered by a touch of spicy bitterness that adds a little zing to the otherwise soft finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body with substantial carbonation that adds to the dryness of the finish without detracting from full-on thirst-quenching nature.

Overall: This is, in my opinion, an exemplary Witbier that I would certainly recommend to enthusiasts of the style. Absolutely perfect for a summer barbeque, or even a backyard wedding! All the same, a part of me wishes for a little something more, something unexpected. This is my typical experience with Ommegang. They do such a stellar job of staying true to the Belgian styles, that I can't help but wish they would do something a tad unruly. Just for kicks.

12oz : tulip

Pours a very hazy, pale yellow with a soapy, foamy white head.

Awesome aroma, big coriander and tangy wheat notes with a light, sweet citrus backing.

Taste is quite similar to the aroma, though I scored it a bit lower as it just wasn't quite as vibrant.

Medium+, foamy body.

A very well done wit, really intriguing nose, and a very solidly done palate.
