Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep and hazy amber with lots of bubbles and a big three finger off white head which slowly settles into a thinner creamy layer.

Smell: A spicy and bready malt forward aroma with good hints of Belgian yeast, grains, rye, and fruit. Upfront Belgian yeast with some spice hints of clove and peppers. Barley malt with hints of rye, toast, wheat, grains, oats, and cracker. Fruit hints of banana, apple, lemon zest, orange, pear, and melon. Also some hints of bubblegum and candied sugar. Subtle hints of earthy and floral hops. A very good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a spicy, bready, and fruity malt driven taste with notes of yeast, grains, rye, and fruit. Upfront presence of Belgian yeast with notes of clove, pepper, and coriander. Barley malt with notes of grains, toast, rye, oats, and cracker. Fruit notes of banana, orange, lemon zest, apple, pear, and melon. Good notes of bubblegum. Sweet taste of candied sugar. Light presence of floral hops. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Creamy, spicy, and pretty smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A very good take on a Rye beer. Good mix of Belgian spice with grainy malt notes and fruit.

Look: white, two finger-width head over amber hued-body. Rising bubbles and suspended sediments permeate.
Smell: fresh, citrus aroma
Taste: grainy, citrus taste- very drinkable, but not necessarily memorable
Mouthfeel: light and airy; sits well on the palate
Overall: a very drinkable, light ale

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy bronzed to heavy burnt orange color with a large rocky foamy white head that dissipated within less than about two minutes. The smell had some Belgian spices, slight yeastiness, some lemon/citrusy notes, slight dry savory grassiness, all combining really nice. The taste took all of those flavors and combined in a sticky sweet fashion. The aftertaste was semi-sweet through slight grassy and citrusy goodness. It’s got a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light, feels good, slightly sticky. Overall, as a Belgian Pale ale, it works, I’d have again.

From a 12 oz bottle in a snifter via a friend from work---Thanks Randy!
This rather nice Biere De Garde pours a hazy amber with a nice head of
off white foam that settles to a thick ring and rocky pooling layer with
very nice lacing. Nose of strong grain bill with spicy rye and definite strong
barley notes mingling with earthy yeast and Belgian candy sugars. Flavors
surpass the nose with strong rye and barley that is mellowed out by wheat and
oat notes that are awash in earthy yeasty goodness as well as candy sugars with
a touch of apricot and light herbal hops. Nice mouth feel; medium high carbonation,
medium body, and a sweet herbal finish laced with grain and yeast notes that finishes
lightly dry.

Overall an excellent ale.
