Our limited edition Belgian-style tripel honors Belgian Independence Day - July 21, 1831. In a New World twist on Old-World style, we've joined Ommegang innovation with Belgian tradition in celebration of the Belgian revolution and the American craft beer revolution. Dry-hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops, this unique beer offers fruity aromatics, well-integrated honeyed malt character, and a delightful overlay of tangerine and sweet citrus notes.

Poured a golden orange body with one finger head and left lace patches around glass. Aroma has a mix of grainy, earthy citric hops with touches of yeast and candi sugar-like sweetness. Dry hopped taste in medium body balances with tropical fruit notes and yeast keeps things fuller bodied with fluffy sweetness, along with a bit of malty sweetness (caramel and breadlike) as well as finished with a spicy kick. Pretty enjoyable triple that doesn't let hops overpower the fruity taste and touch of spiciness.

BOUGHT BOTH A BOMBER BOTTLE AND DRAFT - BOTH FROM OMMEGANG BREWERY IN JULY 2015.

OPENED BOTTLE IN AUGUST 2015. WOW! BETTER IN THE BOTTLE THAN OUR INFORMAL (4 GUYS) DRAFT RATING SYSTEM WHILE AT THEIR BAR IN JULY.

UNFORTUNATELY - HAVEN'T SEEN IN MARYLAND...WHICH IS OUR LOSS...

Beautiful golden color with a dense, creamy, super sticky head. Wonderfully hoppy citrus aroma with light bread grains, fresh yeast, apples and white pepper. Flavor is incredibly balanced with a spicy, yeasty, and sweet honey character. Assertive, lemon and herbal hop. Medium body, high carbonation and dry, crisp finish. Not sure whether to call this a Belgian IPA or tripel but either way, it's incredible!

A: The beer is clear dark golden yellow in color and has a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a two finger high fluffy white head that died down into a short head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of Belgian yeast are present in the nose along with citrusy hops—tangerines seem to stand out in particular—and hints of peppery spices and candi sugars.
T: The taste is similar the the smell, except that the tangerine flavors aren't quite as strong. The underlying candi sugars are also more prominent, but these don't contribute any sweetness because they are overshadowed by peppery spices from the yeast.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is an interesting take on a tripel—with all of the hops and the yeast it reminded me a lot more like a saison or a Belgian IPA. The only properties that are reminiscent of the triple are the heavy dose of candi sugars, but these are overshadowed by the yeast. It does a very good job at masking any traces of alcohol from the taste.

Interesting brew. Don't know that I can pick out the hops. However, the combination of yeast, malt, hops in this case works so well. Some perfume, spice, bubblegum. Great body. It is the power of Gambrinus that compels me to ... um...riiiiiight, heh
