Paid $18.99 for the three-pack gift set...
Pours a black chocolate base, medium caramel head, excellent head retention, very nice lacing on the glass. The aroma is very similar to an American porter; robust/smokey malts, dark Belgian chocolate, espresso beans of fine quality.. it isn't overpowering but fine quality aroma nonetheless.
The taste starts off like a Ghirardelli Espresso Escape chocolate bar; sweet, bitter, and rich and of fine quality! Thereafter it's like a creamy chocolate milkshake the way down, smooth for the most part, moderate-to-heavy carbonation, almost bubbly, hurts it's score. Chewy and fairly smooth in the mouth and at it's a great beer to have the 25oz. bottle, but too much may be a bit excessive.
Final Thought: This was just short of 4.5's across the board and it had everything to do with carbonation... so close to a classic!
