Slightly hazy reddish-amber, huge head that stays around awhile.

Malt, caramel, full of spices - cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg - it's like a spice rack fell into this. But in a nice way.

Similarly complex flavors - lacking the typical "dark fruits" feel of the style, with the spices in the forefront. Coriander, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, brown sugar, booze. Nicely done.

Very smooth mouthfeel.

This was unique and quite enjoyable.

Snagged a single for $3.59 from Vintage Estate. Into my goblet.

A - Ow crap! Such an explosion of carbonation! I wasn't even able to get it all in the glass before it runith over! Color is a hazy oak brown with a ruby tint. The massive 2 inches of head have an opaque brown color almost brown.
S - Smells of tart cherries, mild oak, and big fruity yeasts. Maybe some plum or raisin its hard to tell since its mostly tart not sweet.
T - Big sour tart that quickly gets pulled to a Belgium yeast that is kind of sweet but no real candied sugar flavor. Finish has mild hops and bread but I am not getting much spice that others noted. Pity.
M - For such a massive ABV it drinks more medium to heavy body but still a sipper for sure.

Overall to me this is a very drinkable Belgium ale. Big ABV, light yeast thats not sure dry, and it has some fruity flavors mostly sour funk. Worth trying for 3 bucks.

Appearance - murky chestnut brown color with tan head

Smell - nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, orange peel, brown sugar

Taste - brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander, prunes, plums

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, medium carbonation, spices from the Belgian yeast upfront, slightly sweet body, spices again in the finish, also slightly tart on the finish

Overall - this is a great Belgian winter warmer, another winner from Ommegang. Highly recommended

Price Point - $10.49/4pk/12 oz bottles

Bought at 4 pack of this at the Beer Store in Nashua NH. Being from TN, Ommegang brews are not easily available.

A: Dark amber with about a finger of creamy white head. Good lacing retention. Looks very "warming" for the cold winter.

S: Sweet malts, dark fruits, caramel, coffee, and the smell of alcohol. A big brew with a big smell.

T: Caramel, malts, and a bit of chocolate. And spices. Coriander predominates, but this is a heavily spiced, warming beer with a lot of alcohol content.

M: Carbonated very heavily. Bubbly and effervescent, very active feeling. Seems a bit odd for a beer of this type.

This is an excellent dark winter ale for those cold winter nights. The only catch is that you shouldn't drink as many as you want with a 10% ABV.
