Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Sam Adams glass.(Sorry)
Its appearance was a dark amber, leaning toward reddish. Almost akin to an Irish red. Pillowy 2 1/2 finger bone white colored head with a lasting power of about 2 to 3 minutes, give or take a few minutes. Very few carbonation bubbles which is always a good thing for a winter warmer. A few sediments were floating along before settling to the bottom of the glass toward the end of the session.

This beer has an inviting smell of spices. All spice, pears? Didn't pick up the coriander but you can definitely perceive the cardamom.

The taste was exquisite. The taste of pear is the first thing I was able to detect then came the spices. This beer has a nice peppery, spicy tinge to it that's pleasant. It also has a woody, almost chardonnay flavor that prevents you from "nursing"it. It begs to be consumed before dinner arrives.

Overall, it is a delicious beer to say the least. One that I look forward to every winter. This was my last bottle from last winters haul. IMO, its one of ommegang's best beers. If it's available in your area get it when it's in season. You won't regret it.

Poured a deep red with a paper thin cream colored head. Nose is heavy with winter spices and sweet citrus. Taste was unusually sweet at first then a sharp tang if spice and hops at the finish with a lively carbonation throughout. Very nice on a cold winter's (or cool summer's) day.
