Champagne Ommegang bottle poured into a Duvel glass.

Pours a light to medium copper amber with immense thick white foam. Very sticky, patchy everywhere. Classic belgian yeast smell, and tropical fruits to boot,. Firm hop taste evolves into a fruity malty blend. Smooth, fruity, balanced. On the lighter side, and clean throughout. Finishes easy, very tasty BPA. These guys know what they are doing.

Nice regular gold in appearance. Smell is a nice citrus hop aroma, hits the nose well. This is a tingle on the tongue and the mouthfeel is great. Wet in and dry out of the mouth, well done. Fruity, sweet, hoppy and well balanced. Overall this beer is so fridge worthy we can't afford to fill the fridge. Whoya, wow, ohea, and SMAAKELIJK says the Dutchman. This will go well with an excuse, to have another.

12 oz bottle from Ommegang mixed 8-pack

A- Wow the head on this is ridiculous. Tried pouring slow, but I guess it was still a little too aggressive. Takes a long time to recede. Brilliant gold, very translucent, tons of carbonation, pearly white head. Intense lacing.

S- Citrus, a little bit lemony, a bit of hops, slightly sweet.

T- Sweet, citrusy- a bit lemony (not too strong), slightly hoppy, a little bit yeasty. Sweet, slightly citrusy aftertaste.

M- Fairly light bodied, above average carbonation, well balanced.

O- This was an interesting beer. I could tell right from opening it that it was going to be an aggressively carbonated beer. The head on this beer was very interesting- foamed very fast (probably one of the most intense heads I've encountered before) and took a peculiar shape that had great retention. One word of advice is to be very careful when pouring. Overall this beer was very good for a pale ale. Nice slightly sweet, well balanced taste.

12oz bottle into tumbler, BB 2/2012

Appearance is a hazy yellow with some orange, very active carb. Huge white bubbly head. Smell is sweet and yeasty. Taste doesn't match up to smell expectations: dry, slightly sour finish, bitter, and a bit yeasty. Also has a light citrus hoppiness. Dry/sourness borders on this beer being a sour. Mouthfeel is light and bubbly, med-high carb.

Interesting beer but ultimately too dry and sour for my tastes, perhaps best left as a complement to food on a hot day. If only the taste matched the awesome smell.

Bottled on 5/18/11, darn i even bought this when a rep was in the store. I thought this was much fresher. Anyways lets see how it is.

Pours a classic nice fluffy three fingers worth of pillowy white head. Slightly hazy golden body with champagne like bubbles coming of the bottom. Nice lacing and very good retention.

Smells of bready belgiany yeast, banana, clove, hints of tropical fruit, passion fruit or mango. This is one of the best parts of this beer.

Tastes like a pilsner at first, bready malts, banana, clove and pepper. Some white grape and light grassy hops round out this finish. Initially when this was served it had a noticeable metallic taste, as it warmed up this for the most part went away.

Medium thin body, high carbonation with a firm dry finish.

Overall this is a refreshing crisp, fairly hoppy beer. The metallic taste I detected was a bit off putting but was muted as it warmed. I love the belgain bottle presentation and the pop of a cork makes this purchase seem like a good value. The smell and look are fairly classic while the taste is more hoppy and pleasing to my american palate. I'd love to try this fresh, the date is clearly stamped on the neck.

Pours a hazy, bright golden color with a huge fluffy white head that sticks around.

The scent is of sweet citrus and yeast. Light notes to toasted malts.

The taste was of citrus, some yeast, some toasted malt, a light earthy hop bitterness, and some spice.

Light body, smooth and quite dry, moderate carbonation.

This was an average BPA, there was quite a bit to taste but I felt the flavor was a little too thin.

Note: Had on tap at the Peculier Pub. NYC

A: Dark gold with a creamy off white head with thick lacing.

S: Malt, clove, pear, cherry and pine tree.

T: First flavor notes are of crystal and pilsner malt blend. Noble hop, corriander, black pepper are the secondary flavor profile. Slight hints of orange zest. Dry aftertaste.

M: Light to medium body with high carbonation.

O. A decent, but not great offering from a brewery ive come to know and love. I guess its an acceptable example of a belgian pale, but it doesnt really do the brewery justice. Being a homebrewer, I would have tried to smooth the pepper hop profile and balance the noble hops a little better. Not bad, just not one of Ommegang's better beers. Mouthfeel is a little too carbonated for a standard BPA and it isnt adequately spiced to consider it a good belgian fit. Not as good as the Ommegang Rare vos.

On tap at the Dutch. Golden hue capped by a nice head with good retention, slightly cloudy. Smell is full of flower and light cracker. Well balanced by light malt, slightly cutting bitterness from flower, light grass and hay. Light to medium bodied..

Ridiculous pour into my Rodenbach Grand Cru tulip. Absurdly creamy meringue head slathered in angular clumps. Hazy amber body with warm hues. Spectacular.

Semi-spicy yeasty aroma with a mild double orange liqueur note. Earthy and a little musty. Complex and inviting.

Spicy yeast, black pepper, grapefruit pith, oyster crackers, some sea saltiness... this is effing marvelous. Nice citrus element from the dry-hopping. Super dry semi-bitter finish. Getting a smudge of unripe banana in that yeast strain. Very round character. I'm seriously impressed. My only complaint: a bit too sweet up front.

Great chewy bubble all throughout. Spritzy, dry, medium-bodied, everything I could ask for in this beer.

This is a tremendous Belgian Pale. I love this. Man, I gotta have another Orval sometime soon. Not my favorite style, but now I'm not sure which is my favorite example.
