Poured into a tulip

A- Fruity esters I associate with belgian yeasts. Not much hop aroma present.

A- Slight haze. Light amber to reddish hue. Head was scant on mine probably more due to my pour than the beer.

F- Light phenols hit me immediately. Spicey undertones are present along with a grainy taste from the Pils malt I assume. The finish has a pronounced lemon flavor. No hot alcohol, which I appreciate.

M- Medium to high carbonation. Drying on the palate leaving me wanting more.

o- Interesting beer. I like the spice undertones, but the phenols don't quite suit me.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a transparent burnt orange which turns hazy, fluffy white head that fades a bit but leaves nice lacing and retention. Lots of sweet belgian funk blended with some earthy hops. There's some banana, cherry, and candied sugars in the mix as well. Tastes really nice, bittersweet flavors. It kinda tastes like a Belgian pale ale, but I see how it can be a Belgian amber. Flavors are earthy and finishe very very clean. Mouthfeel is really nice, lots of spritzy carbonation, smooth and slightly creamy; medium-bodied. Alcohol goes unnoticed and this is easy and fun to drink.

Just another really nice beer from Ommegang..

Appearance - Nice Amber color; 1 inch of head with plenty of lacing served in goblet.

Smell - Fruity; citrus with a bit of spices

Taste - Balanced: sweet caramel malt with hints of apple, plums, and vanilla. Earthy yeast and slight citrus hops.

Mouthful - Effervescent with a medium body, plenty of carbonation.

Overall - Pretty good offering from Ommegang. The overall balance of the flavors and the foaminess make this a very easy to drink BPA. It is marketed as a Belgian Amber.

Had on tap at The Office Lounge in Toms River, NJ.

Appearance: A nice amber color with almost no head most likely due to the bartender's pour. A shame, since having some head seems to enhance this brew quite a bit

Smell: Fruity, with generous helpings of plum, anise, citrus, and a little spice.

Taste: Fruity, plum, anise, citrus, and a bit more subtle spice. Very well balanced flavors.

Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated, but relatively smooth, medium thickness

Overall: This is a beer I quite enjoy from Brewery Ommegang. I often overlook it, but I was happy to see such a good beer on tap next to a wide variety of more common beers (BMC, Guinness, etc). Went very well with my roasted half duckling.

Light amber colored ale with a thick head and excellent retention. Some lacing.

Bright fruity and yeasty aromas with some hops mingled in.

Lots of fruit flavors, apple, banana, pineapple and lemon come to mind. Citric hops, semi-assertive. Fresh yeast flavor. Very well balanced.

Medium bodied with a lively carbonation.

Good stuff. Hard to believe this is not made in Belgium. Complex, refreshing and delicious.

A: A very cloudy medium orange pour. Huge white head. Settles down slowly, leaving a nice trail of lacing.

S: Tons of dark fruit, very malty. Lots of sweet caramel, raisins, fig and banana. A touch of peach? Yeasty with plenty of cloves.

T: Again, very malty, tons of dark fruit. Raisins in particular. Quite boozy, also surprisingly. No noticeable hops. Tastes almost a little funky. Wonder if that's intended or not.

M: Surprisingly thin, oddly enough.

O: A very interesting BPA. Almost no hops, but super fruity and malty and even a little funky.

The beer pours a dark amber/copper color with a big cap of off-white foam. The tulip glass directed the yeasty aroma full of fruit and clove spices. The maltiness of the aroma transfers on to the palate. The malt is biscuit-like, almost crisp in nature. High carbonation leads the way toward a bitter and spicy finish. Dry and refreshing while still being malty with a hint of alcohol. This is pleasure to drink.

Hazy, golden-to-amber appearance. Great lumpy head has some staying power. Very nice nose, smells very ‘Belgian.’ Fruity nose, maybe some apple or pear? The smell itself has a bit of bite to it, gives anticipation of sour/tart flavors.

Drinks much lighter than expected at first. Insane carbonation dominates the first experience. Entry doesn’t have much of a presence, tartness kicks in mid-palate, finish comes from the yeast, with some familiar banana notes. Finishes very dry. High alcohol doesn’t come through at all.

Overall: B
