Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and very hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big three finger white head that slowly recedes into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a good amount of lacing.

Smell: A yeasty, spicy, and fruity Belgian style aroma with hints of peppers and citrus fruit. Belgian yeast with some upfront hints of pepper, clove, and slight funk. Big mix of fruit esters with hints of banana, orange, lemon, mango, apple, and pear. Also some hints of bubblegum and candied sugar. Wheat and pale malt with hints of straw, grains, oats, cracker, and biscuit. Subtle hints of earthy hops in the background. A very solid Belgian style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a yeasty, fruity, and spicy Belgian style taste with good notes of pepper and fruits. Upfront Belgian yeast along with notes of peppers, clove, and a little funk. Lots of fruit flavors with some notes of banana, orange, mango, lemon, apple, and pear. Some bubblegum flavor as well. Sweet notes of candied sugar. Pale malt along with notes of wheat, grains, straw, oats, biscuit, and cracker. Subtle background notes of earthy hops with some grass. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Crisp, juicy, spicy, and pretty drying and smooth. Alcohol is masked pretty well.

Overall: A very solid take on a Belgian Pale Ale. Good mix of fruit and spice esters with a smooth body.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Very cloudy orangish-yellow with good sized white cap with tiny bubbles.

Smell: Banana, fleshy fruit, clove, pepper and crackery malts.

Taste: Lots of banana and fleshy fruits upfront, with some depth from from the crackery malts, clove and pepper. There is a lingering, sweetish, fruity aftertaste that reminds me more of Belgian Dark Ale than a Pale Ale and is distracting.

Feel: Medium body with decent carbonation but not as effervescent as my experience with either Ommegang or Chouffe beers. Maybe the yeasts don't entirely get along. However, the finish mostly nice and dry.

Overall: Pretty good overall but I expected more. Specifically, I would have liked a light, spicier, more effervescent BSPA.

This beer is better than I expected. It has a hazy, floatie laden beer..the head is enormous and lasting. The smell is fruity...apricot, peach, pear, and lots of Belgian, bubblegum and clove yeast. Mope prey, but very sweet smelling. The taste is slanted sweet, with a continuation of the fruit theme. Spice in the mid taste and a hoppy bitter finish. Great beer.
