THIS ADORATION WINTER STRONG ALE was aged eight months at Ommegang. It went into BUFFALO TRACE BOURBON BARRELS in September 2009 and was bottled in April 2010. Only 200 bottles were created.

Enjoy all the flavor, aroma and spiciness of Adoration, overlaid with notes of oak and bourbon, as well as a hint of vanilla.

Buffalo Trace Distillery is located in Frankfort, Kentucky - the very heart of bourbon country. The distillery has been operating since 1787.

@ Busy Bee 4th Anniversary

Dark brown color with no head to speak of. Bourbon aroma, heavy on the oak, with vanilla, booze, spices, and fruity esters. Rich, smooth flavor...vanilla, bourbon, woody dryness, berries, figs, plums, and light cocoa. Increasing festive spices and yeast as it warms up. Gets a little sticky and heavy on the palate after about eight ounces. Fluffy carbonation, medium-full body, and creamy smooth. This is certainly a sipper, but a very nice, special surprise to come across. Happy birthday Busy Bee and thanks for the treat...

On tap at Rattle-N-Hum in NYC. Pours cloudy chestnut brown color with a 1 finger tan head that faded and left minimal lacing. Smells of toffee, caramel, bourbon, red wine, brown sugar, oak barrels, butterscotch, candied sugar and fruity candy. Very sweet smelling overall it's mellow and boozy at the same time with a lot of complexities as it gets warmer. Tastes of dark fruit like cherry, dates, chocolate dipped strawberries, red wine like a merlot, toffee, caramel, bourbon, and then a flavorful mix like the nose with brown sugar, oak/barrels, butterscotch, candied sugar, citrus hop spices, cinnamon, buttered wheat bread toast and fruity candy. Wow, this was smooth for the 10% ABV listed, and it got so much better as it warmed. Smooth and buttery, this slid down sweet but not cloyingly sweet and made for a great slow sipper.

Note's from Captain Lawrence Rosso Batch 3 release / tasting:

Part of the brewery release from the 2010 St Nik xmas event. This was another busted out in the wee hours of the morning. I'm a pretty big fan of Adoration and had been saving this bottle for the right moment and this seemed it. Nice caramel color, no head as expected, bourbon is hot on the nose and on the flavor, which mixes really nice with the adoration spiciness. Very smooth, the buffalo trace barrels really do nice work with this beer. smells hot on the bourbon, taste is solid with a great mix. picture adoration with a strong ping of bourbon. mouth is very smooth. overall this was a great beer and i can't wait to try the others from this release.

10%? Not at all - well balanced strong ale with a sweet, but not cloying vanilla toffee profile.

From 01/30/14 notes. Had an 8 oz. pour of this on tap at Blind Tiger. Not sure if the vintage but assuming they re-brewed this recently.

a - Pours a deep, reddish brown color with one inch of light tan head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of coconut, sweet dark fruits, oak, bourbon, caramel malts, and toasted malts. Nice nose, lots of coconut from the barrel. Bourbon is somewhat light.

t - Tastes of bourbon, sweet dark fruits, caramel malts, coconut, oak, toasted malts, chocolate, toasted malts, and molasses. Taste has more bourbon, caramel, and chocolate than the nose; a step up for me.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to drink and no heat to it at all.

o - Overall I liked this one quite a bit; I liked it better as it warmed up and the more I drank
it. I also liked it a little better than the base beer. No heat but nice bourbon in the taste, and coconut throughout. Definitely worth checking out if you see it, would like to have it again.
