750 ml bottle poured into a New Belgium globe glass.
A: Pours very dark brown, almost black with a creamy light tan head. Retention is quite nice and sticky lace coats the glass.
S: Right away, some faint cherry and bitter chocolate, but is covered mainly with that banana and clove Belgian yeast character. A bit too overpowering.
T: some cherry is present, along with bitter chocolate and espresso notes. Hops are very faint in the background, drying out the finish.
Notes: A bit lighter in body than I expected, but still has a very silky mouthfeel. Drinkability is decent, although one bottle is almost too much for one person. A decent beer, but I feel that Ommegang does much better with their traditional brews.

On draft at The Top Gainesville into a small snifter. Pours black with a tiny head. Aroma of sweet candy malt, belgian yeast, maybe a little roast and cherry. Mouthfeel close to a stout with low carbonation. Creamy up front that goes into a cherry flavor that takes over the palate and lasts a bit. Sort of a cherry cordial but not overly sweet. Touch of bitterness keeps things in check. Nicely balanced.
