Scythe & Sickle is an-amber ale brewed with a variety of malts, including pils, rye flakes and oat flakes, for incredible depth of flavor and a hint of natural sweetness. Scythe & Sickle brings a new life and flavor to autumn beer lists traditionally filled with Oktoberfests and pumpkin ales. The flavors of the hard work of summer and the celebration of autumn harvest are captured in Scythe & Sickle, creating a unique but traditional Ommegang farmhouse harvest ale.
“Scythe & Sickle is our foray into honoring the harvest season, taking the finest malts and blending them seamlessly into a rich amber ale,” says Brew Master Phil Leinhart. “Farming is about precision, timing and care, and this gently sweet ale is our testament to the craft and care of farming.”

The appearance was a hazy bronzed to heavy burnt orange color with a large rocky foamy white head that dissipated within less than about two minutes. The smell had some Belgian spices, slight yeastiness, some lemon/citrusy notes, slight dry savory grassiness, all combining really nice. The taste took all of those flavors and combined in a sticky sweet fashion. The aftertaste was semi-sweet through slight grassy and citrusy goodness. It’s got a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light, feels good, slightly sticky. Overall, as a Belgian Pale ale, it works, I’d have again.

Ommegang Scythe & Sickle.
Im probably one of the only people on here that hasn't had many beers out of these guys. Found a single bottle of this today and decided it might be worth a shot. Not feeling a long entry here, let's get to it
Look - From the twelve ounce bottle slow poured into a dimpled pint glass. Reason for the slow pour being that the head on this one immediately takes up 99% of the glass and would coninu building given any more drippage. The beer itself pours a very murky shade of amber with some noticeable sediment and a high amount of carbonation. The head is extremely dense and long lasting. After the drink is finished, the head sill remains as a thick and super frothy cap and the lacing is extraordinary.
Smell - The nose on this beer is very straightforward without a scent of nonsense. Straight up fresh and juicy apricots and melons. There is nothing else to note here so I'll move right along.
Taste - The melons and apricots also dominate the flavor profile along with a nice dosage of the Belgian style yeasts I was expecting. A bit peppery as well without going the route of fresh urination and barnyard animals. Again, not a huge flavor profile but a good one at that.
Feel - The feel is the only thing that let me down JUST A BIT. Despite the excepionaly well retained head there isn't much in the way of creamyness. However, the cabonation is rather low and it swallows easy with pleasant fruity esters. Sits easily and cleanly in the mouth.
Overall - Not a huge review by any means but this beer also didnt have a whole lot to discect. It is a very easy drinking, tasty beer and would be fantastic for sessioning. Never once becomes overly sweet or cloying in the least which is a huge problem with a lot of beers in this AB range it seems. As always, try it for yourself and come to your own conclusions..
