750 ml caged-and-corked bottle, says it was packaged on 8/30/12. Consumed on 10/20/12.
A: Cork is removed with a soft "pop." Poured into a (what else?) Duvel tulip. Body is golden but then in natural light it turns more pale yellow. Small white head on top leaves some splotchy lace on the glass.
S: Bread-doughy malt, some spice and fruit - think ripe green apples - in the nose. Hint of lemon. Some funkiness becoming more evident as it warms.
T: Nicely balanced between what seems to be yeasty fruitiness, spice and bitterness. Finishes with a touch of peppery spice and then alcohol heat. Lemony bitterness coats the palate and lingers into the aftertaste, offsetting the otherwise malty, yeasty and spicy flavors.
M: Slightly less than medium in heft. Not as softly or fizzily (is that a word?) carbonated as the better Belgians, but the carbonation is far from harsh - in fact, it's possibly a bit too modest; it gives a slightly oily impression, though the fine-bubbled carbonation is noted on the lips.
D: Very good. Would like to do the "Pepsi Challenge" with this beer and "regular" Duvel to see what differences there are. Going from memory, this one seems to be a solid approximation of Duvel.

Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. The beer is hazy gold color with bleached white minimal head after even a fairly aggressive pour.
Aroma is mild with bready yeast, some sweet malt and some spicy and earthy hops.
First sip reveals an average to light body with fine rolling carbonation.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some caramel malt and a little musty funk mixed in for fun.
The hops give the same earthy and spicy notes as he nose advertised, I dont get any booze which is nice since it is a bigger beer.
Very easy to drink and worth trying as it is interesting and fairly complex without being messy.
