Drank from a goblet. Gearing up for the season premiere.

A: Pours an impenetrable rich gold with a robust, staid frothy-light head.

S: About as sweet, fruity as you'd expect. Biscuit flour, lemon, nougat. Cinnamon and coriander. Boozy overtones.

T: Bready malt intermingles with spice, dried fruit and lemon. The overwhelming sweetness dominates any potential bitterness. What is not dominated is the alcohol, which slices through the whole enterprise.

M: Oily and substantial. Heavy on the tongue and chewy.

O: Good example of a Belgian Pale Ale. Just as well that it's flying off the shelves, though, as I cannot imagine myself drinking it again. There are equally satisfying (and better) BPA's that aren't co-branded with HBO and therefore less pricey.

First had: bottle from Edgemont Beer

Served in the #properglassware Ommegang Game of Thrones tulip, a clear, straw-yellow pour with a large puff of frothy white head that soon settled to a thick collar, leaving lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma of pale malts, grainy, Belgian yeast, light fruit esters. Taste of toasted grains, Belgian yeast with a bit of clovey spice, earthy, leafy hops; a bit stale, but non-offensive. Not really my style, but for the style, I guess it's not too bad. Light-medium body, and pretty solid overall, but nothing I'd go for again.

Pours a very hazy, pale golden yellow color with straw/banana hues and a frothy, pillowy white head.  Great retention, only slowly settling into a lasting cap/ring.  Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.

Strong bready yeast character in the aroma with zesty spice, banana and cirus fruit notes.  Some bubblegum character along with a strong banana and yeast presence.  Peppery spice with hints of clove, coriander, lemon zest and grains of paradise.  Somewhat inviting aroma but the yeast and banana are really strong, negatively affecting the aroma, in my opinion.

On the fuller end of medium body with lots of bread/yeast and zesty spice flavor.  Again, there's a very strong banana bread flavor along with some bubblegum, clove, coriander, pepper and grains of paradise followed by zesty orange peel.  The spice character is strong and his beer has some good zesty citrus fruit sweetness but the yeast and bubbllegum/banana flavors are too strong for my liking.  Decent but a bit disappointing given the pedigree of the brewery and my excitement over the possibility of this series.  Hopefully the other beers in the series turn out better.

Bottle poured into snifter

Keep this quick...
Color, clean but slightly hazy, was served to me from a fridge. I heated it up but still slightly hazy.

Smell... Not much, belgian yeast smell..pretty plain

Taste, about the same, not much to it

Mouthfeel very carbonated

Overall it was clean tasting and refreshing but not a whole lot there, I wouldn't buy it again.

A- pale golden, white head comes on strong, good retention

S- banana bread yeasty character, some sweet malt

T- banana, sweet bready malt, some bubblegum in the finish

M- pleasant thickness, I'm happy it isnt thicker, I think it would become cloying with the sweetness, nice amount of carbonation

Appearance- pale yellow color, huge foamy head

Smell- malt, spices

Taste- malt, spices

Mouthfeel- light to medium bodied, heavily carbonated

Drinkability- I thought it was pretty good but I usually don't drink this style of beer. I would have it again if I found it again.

750ml corked and caged bottle. Bottled on 2/15/2013. Served in a Trappist goblet. Drank while watching Game of Thrones

Appearance: Pours a hazy honey yellow color with 2 fingers of a frothy white head with good retention. Lots of visible carbonation streaming throughout the glass

Smell: Cereal grain, Belgian yeast, sweet malt, lemon, spices.

Taste: Belgian yeast, grain, lemongrass, light malt sweetness, pineapple, hint of funk

Mouthfeel: Light side of medium bodied. Relatively high carbonation, but doesn't tear up your tongue.

Overall: I bought this almost entirely for the GoT tie in, so I didn't have too high expectations going in. I wasn't a fan of the aroma, but overall this was a pretty good beer. I'd have it again, but given the price per ounce, I probably won't buy it again.

Always up for Ommegang, this one opened with resounding pop!

Pours honey colored with a pinky of pearl colored head. Average head retention & a trace of lacing

S: Pears & apple skins

T: Follows the nose, some lemon as well, plus honey suckle up front. Honey sweetness, dryness, just a whisper of pineapple as this warms. Finishes fruitty, dry, with some golden delicious apple sweetness

MF: Light bodied, fairly soft carbonation, nice balance, but would've preffered heavier hopping

Much like the series, this got my attention, but failed to hold it. Not one of Ommegang's better offerings, but drinkable enough & true to the style. Worth a try, I guess
