From 04/03/13 notes. Missed out on bottles of this as it was harder to find than I expected and I didn't want to hunt this down, but saw it on tap last night at Pony Bar on the UES in NYC so decided to try it.

a - Pours a hazy golden-yellow color with one inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks pretty nice.

s - Smells of lemons, spices, cloves, peppers, wheat, yeast, grains, bready malts, and some floral hops. Very nice nose; lots of lemon and floral notes to it.

t - Tastes of lemon zest, wheat, grains, pepper, spices, earthy notes, lightly musty, citrus and floral hops. Pretty good though I like the nose better. Musty and earthy notes bring it down a little bit for me.

m - Medium body and moderate to high carbonation. No alcohol presence and pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall a pretty nice Belgian pale ale from Ommegang, though nothing mind blowing. I liked the nose a lot though the taste was a step down for me. Easy to drink and worth checking out once, though not something I'd kill to get a bottle of. While I would like the actual bottle because it looks cool and I am a big fan of the show and books, I'm glad I didn't spend time hunting down a bottle of it.

a few days late to the party, but sometimes it takes a few days to find some time to sit down with a beer and a television show for an uninterrupted hour. alas we are here...show loaded up, beer ready to go, matching glass...let's see what this whole experience is all about.

a - popped the bottle, and the beer poured a transparent yellow with a generous three fingers of frothy head and extremely lively carbonation. ya gotta give it to ommegang...they are a brewery that consistently produces a visually stunning beer. the head is massive and chunky and the lacing is milkshake like. not as creamy as the classics for the style, but time and time again ommegang has shown that you can brew belgian classics in the states.

s - yum. there's that bubblegum belgian yeast. smells dynamite. clove, banana, bubblegum, belgian candy with a touch of earthiness. a bit heavy on the sweet side.

t - has a distinctive ommegang taste, but extremely earthy. much like the nose, bubblegum and clove, but the dirt of the earth steals the show.

m - lively carbonation a bit prickly. leaves an earthy cooling aftervibe.

o - overall, decent belgian pale ale. nothing crazy, but as one comes to expect with ommegang, even the weaker beers have a quality that you can see and feel, this one just has a bit too much earth for me. let's watch the premier as i enjoy this beer and see if the show can excite me a bit more than the beer. not bad, just not something that i would want a case of to drink every week with the show.

Had on draught poured into a pint glass.

This beer pours a clean light amber and has just a slight haziness. The aroma is straight forward for a Belgian blonde ale. There is a bit of banana-ey ester. The flavor is well done and straight forward. It is crisp and light with just a hint of funk. There is a good mouthfeel with just enough carbonation to balance the mild stickiness.

Overall this is a good beer, typical of Ommegang. It does not stand out as extraordinary. But it is good.

Picked up at Julio's. This thing POPPED with barely a touch to the cork.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a crystal clear light golden hue with a big, fluffy 4 finger head that is super rocky and simply does not quit. Tons of sticky lacing. Like another posted, looks super close to perfection aka Duvel.

S - Full of grassy hops, faint floral notes, gentle esters, lots of those grains of paradise and light lemon. Little bit of alcohol in it too.

T - Taste is fairly solid, light belgian notes, some faint citrus and grassiness. Slightly spicey notes and esters. Finish is a bit boozey though.

M - Mouthfeel is quite sharp and carbonated.

O - Overall not a bad beer but the back end has a a flash of alcohol and bit of metallic to it. Otherwise a solid brew.

In Ommegang fashion, this is well done and purely a Belgian ale. A slightly yeasty tone with earthy funk in a minimal sense also with the requisite sweetness. The detractor to me, since I am critiquing, is that even though it's consistent, it falls off a bit too quickly somewhat. I think when I got more of the yeast this was not so much so. Regardless. A consistent and fairly solid ale. I can dig it.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip, and it looks just like Duvel - which is to say, perfect.

S: Very grassy, lightly floral, and quite estery. Lots of green apple and lemongrass. Pretty solid.

T: Starts out citrusy and floral, with grassiness following close behind. Mild malt midway through, and a spicy, bittersweet, slightly metallic finish. Good up until the end, and still decent even there.

M: Highly carbonated, fairly light-bodied. Starts out lively and becomes creamier. Quite nice indeed.

O: Short of spectacular, but an admirable and drinkable BPA. It's way too delicate to pair with the show, of course, but a good beer all the same.

Cheers!

Winter is coming! Oh wait, it's already come and gone. 750cc bottle poured into a HF glass, $10 for a bottle, drank while watching the premier.

A: Semi-opaque golden amber color with a large, pure white head, moderate retention and lacing.

S: Belgian malts characteristic of the style. Not much hop character to speak of.

T: Belgian wheat taste is strong. No alcohol presence to speak of. Average finish.

M: Clean and quite crisp. Light body with a refreshing finish.

O: An average to above-average Belgian ale. Nothing special but not a bad offereing. A gimmick, sure, and overpriced definitely, but decent beer.
