As I stare into the abyss of the North, I pour this into my goblet.
Look: It's cold here, as well as dark. The brew exhibits both of these traits. The head is so thick and pillow-like, I wish I could take a break from my watch for just a second, rest my head on it's embrace, and take a rest.
Aroma: Spices galore! The smells remind me of the woods just to the south, in what I use to think was the north. There is a light sense of licorice as well. They claim there is anise, but I do not detect it as of yet. Perhaps in the tasting itself?
Taste: Perhaps I detect the anise, perhaps. Luckily for me, there is only a slight sense of the licorice. Mostly, I get the malty sweetness, with a bit of bitterness on the end. Decently balanced.
Feel: It warms me as it goes down, which is greatly desired. Soon, I will have to trek into the blinding snow for my fellow rangers, and this will keep my heart beating, I know it. It's medium bodied and accompanied with medium carbonation.
Overall: Although this isn't the greatest brew in westeros by a long shot, it does keep me warm when the night is dark, and full of terrors. Now if I can just keep the Big Bear from drinking it all...
Yep, I'm a nerd. And?

Pours black as a White Walkers soul with a very huge head...I had to slow down my pour to make sure i didnt over do it.Slight lacing and retention...so far so good.Smell is licorice and malt.First taste is not what I was expecting but maybe because of the Ommegang style I expected the siginiture taste of the Belgian style. This is NOT a chocolate bomb stout for sure.It does seem to melt in the mouth a bit but not a thick aftertaste.Do not let the name fool you. This is not a Russian Imperial Stout. This is much lighter and at first I was let down but after my first glass I get what they were trying to pull off here. Not bad at all. 3.5 out of 5 stars.
