Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Ommegang and HBO® announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones® collaboration series. Through its first three seasons, the critically acclaimed drama has become the biggest show on HBO. Take the Black Stout follows the highly coveted Iron Throne Blonde Ale, which flew off of shelves earlier this year. To satisfy the appetite of Game of Thrones fans, production of Take the Black Stout will more than double the final volumes of Iron Throne Blonde Ale.

Inspired by the brotherhood of the Night’s Watch, Take the Black Stout was made to be deep, dark and complex like those who have sworn the oath to defend Westeros against threats from the north. The label depicts the Weirwood tree where Jon Snow recited the oath before joining the Night’s Watch.

In time for the holidays, Take the Black Stout makes for the perfect gift. Shipping to distributors in September 2013, the beer is available in 750 ML bottles and 1/6 barrel kegs.

750 ml corked and caged bottle, poured into a Chimay goblet. Nice mild easy sipping Belgian. pours a dense dark brown with a good size tan head. Excellent retention and big patches of spotty lacing.

Aroma is fairly mild. Some dark fruit, caramel malt and a bit of chocolate. Taste is a bit more robust. Dark fruit (plums and raisins), malty, some caramel malt but not enough to make it sweet, a little semi-sweet chocolate, fairly strong Belgian yeast presence.

Mouthfeel is rich and smooth. A slight alcohol presence that provides a warming effect but no "burn".

At 7%, this can be a slow sipper for one person. I enjoyed it.

Had on tap at the Ommegang brewery cafe yesterday.Poured into a snifter near jet black with a one finger frothy beige head atop.Aromas of black licorice and roast mainly, quite yeasty.Flavors of light yeasty phenols, dark roast, and more of the black licorice, with a dryer earthy finish. Not bad and not overly yeasty/phenolic.

Found this in total wine, almost died of ecstasy. I'm a huge 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and 'Game of Thrones" fan.. so was pretty excited to find this on the shelf..

A 25 oz. bottle poured into a New Belgium globe.

A: Dark, pitch black death. A quarter-inch head left on the top.

S: Sour, burnt hops, a smidgen of marshmallow.

T: Tastes sour, dark oak and chocolate.

M: Foamy, breezy, fluffy. Delicious.

O: Very nice beer. I would recommend it. AND read the books too.

In a snifter the beer was a black color with a cocoa-colored head. There was a bit of lace.

Aroma of chocolate and coffee, with some sweet fruit. I had the impression of charcoal.

The aroma translated well into the taste. Sweet chocolate, coffee. Some raisins. Still that charcoal sensation.

Very smooth, on the dry side.

Enjoyed it.

750ml brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

Tan lacing get showing with leaving rings of lace down the glass, liquid is pitch black. Hints of unsweetened dark chocolate and faint espresso in the nose. Crisp, a bit of sweetness to start. Dark sugar meets spice, roasty with a highly toasted bread and some dried dark fruit. Hints of medicinal phenols and spice in the middle. Some fruity esters and more roastiness in the finish. Well done.
