Drove to Cooperstown from Syracuse to visit Brewery Ommegang.
Did the brewery tour, tasting, shopped in gift shop, and ate/drank in the Café.

The café had recently been opened/renovated from what I was told. We sat at the bar which was very nice. The atmosphere of the café was excellent: dim, large heavy wooden tables, chalkboards in the back with Brewery events and seasonal brew details, along with tasteful beer art (wooden Maredsous signs, etc.)

Beer selection was excellent: a variety of usual Ommegang brews, Duvel, Maredsous 6 and 8, and a few Chouffe taps.

The food menu had an excellent selection with a wide variety.

I had the house oysters and a La Chouffe and Ommegang Three Philosphers. My girlfriend had Ommegang Hennepin and we shared some ice cream. The ice cream was some sort of roasted coffee caramel something. I can't remember exactly but it was great!

Service was good, the bartenders were a little hard to get a hold of for another beer at times despite not being very busy. But one was able to stand and talk beer for a few minutes when it slowed down, which was nice. We were given a heads-up that the food would take a little bit longer than usual because they only had one chef working, which we did not mind at all, we were just happy to be there enjoying our beer.

Definitely worth a trip out to visit Brewery Ommegang and the Café. I had a blast and will definitely remember the experience fondly now that I have moved back to Texas and most likely won't be able to visit again.

Great place if you like Belgian style ales or are willing to give them a try. The tour is nothing special, but the tasting gives you a great introduction to Ommegang's beers and lets you keep the tasting glass. Their growler is the nicest I've seen. I did not try their food as nearby Cooperstown has a number of nice local places, but the brewery diner is clean and cozy.

As much as I like the beer from this brewer I need to be critical of their customer service. My wife and I had a trip planned up to the Baseball HOF one weekend in the summer. We carefully laid our itinerary to make sure our trip went smoothly. We wanted to visit this brewery and even went as far to call them to make sure we could bring our underage son on the tour. We told them which weekend we were coming up and even checked the website to make sure we had their hours straight. Well when we got there there was a huge festival that shut down the whole facility. If you didn't pre-buy tickets you couldn't attend. They wouldn't even let us visit the shop to buy a bottle of beer. The employee working the gate simply shrugged their shoulders and told us to come back another weekend. After driving 6 hours to get there this isn't a real option. Now this is where we get really upset. We sent a certified letter to them expressing our dissatisfaction about what happened to us. Even if the website mentioned the festival it would have helped. Well our letter went unanswered. So unfortunately I can't promote this place.
