I drove about 200 miles here from NJ because one of my coworkers whose favorite session beer is Rare Vos told me that visiting Brewery Ommegang was on his semi-bucket list of things he wanted to prior to leaving NJ. I also dragged a friend of mine that lives in Philly because his gf had gone home for thanksgiving break and had nothing else to do. The end result? I ended up driving 3.5 hours both ways while all the two of them did was talk about the online game League of Legends non-stop. It would have been nice if they would have offered to drive for a few hours or minutes, or even maybe chip in for gas. But hey, I guess life isn't perfect.

My friends and I left at the crack of dawn to get to Brewery Ommegang around 10am. The Brewery itself is out in the middle of nowhere outside of Cooperstown on what looks like an abandoned farmstead converted into a brewing facility. The facilities are very well decorated and organized -- you walk up to the sales counter and pay for a tour/tasting which starts every 15 minutes, wait either outside or inside the store where they offer all of their year-round brews and whatever seasonal is available at the time; and then a tour guide leads you on a very informative 20 or so minute tour around the facilities after which you come back into the store front for the tasting.

We didn't get to sample the food here because the wait for the cafe was ungodly, but my friend was able to replenish on all his three major food groups here at the brewery store (beer, cheese, and pickles); whereas i was disappointed that even after the long drive back I couldn't find some of Ommegang's harder to find selections, they did sell everything at much cheaper than retail price (or maybe it's just NJ/PA that overprices everything) and they did have some harder to find offerings when I went such as Chocolate Indulgence and Call of the Wild.

All in all a very enjoyable experience, but it probably helps immensely if you're an Ommegang fan or have never been to a brewery before. Other than that, the brewery experience here isn't exactly magical or life-changing, but excellent, nonetheless.
