I am somewhat torn over this review. Maybe the winter weather has taken its toll on the brewery, but the buildings themselves were looking a bit tired (as opposed to the pictures on their website).
The tour took about 10 minutes and seemed perfunctory. I understand that maybe The tour is geared towards the novice...so on to the tasting. Six beers were poured (maybe three ozs per) And the individual giving the tasting was quite knowledgeable. Tasting cost $3.00 apiece and we received a souvenir glass.
My wife and I ate at the cafe and the food was okay, but nothing really stood out. My entree actually came to the table cold. Our waiter apologized, took it back to the kitchen, and returned with the same entree which had obviously been microwaved. I was comped one of my beers for my troubles.

Here's the real kicker of the evening, and consequently the primary reason for my low score. My wife purchased a glass of Liefmans Cuvee Brut on tap. Of course I tried a sip and it seemed overly sweet compared to the bottled version which I was quite familiar with. When I mentioned this to the bartender, he said "yeah, I know what you mean. They use the same line when they switch out the Fruitesse. " His cavalier response really threw me. I expected a greater attention to detail from a brewery of Ommegang's caliber. If I lived nearby I would come often to drink at the bar...but for those making the pilgrimage; well I hope your experience is better.

I think the first thing that anyone needs to know going in is that Brewery Ommegang is committed to their Belgian constitution. You will NOT find hoppy beers and cheeseburgers here. I drove out for the day to get an early release of Fire and Blood red ale. Although my initial opinion of the beer was not a great one, it was nonetheless unique. My only complaint was the tour. Our guide flew through it. It was not entertaining and it was hard to feel involved; but it was free so what can I really complain about. During the tasting they offered an assortment of dips and spreads that were all made with their beer, which were fantastic. We had lunch in their cafe. Perfect bar atmosphere, lots of space, and the food was superb. The food and beer are a little expensive, but if you've ever bought an Ommegang brew you know what you're getting yourself into.

This establishment is top notch. Founded in 1997, the premise looks like a House of Champagne! Maybe it should be renamed to "House of Ommegang" :P The decor is splendid, the atmosphere is superb. Put it this way: it feels like you are in Europe, in Belgium in fact! The beautiful area of Cooperstown is fantastic. After visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame, I headed here as I love Belgian-style brews, and Ommegang makes them as good as ANY Belgian Brewery. Here, I was able see Ommegang's brewing technique and taste many beers that I would have not found in my local bottle-shop. The cuisine is also amazing. You can't go wrong here!

Here lies the best brewery in America!
