Growler filled a few hours ago.
Pours a mild mocha colored creamy small head, fades at a med pace, bit of lacing, very dark pretty much black color.
Nose is a mix of aromas, a little cocoa and dark chocolate out front, then into some toasty caramel brown malts, with a touch of smoke but not much, then loads of pepper, like an ancho chili or poblano rich chili pepper, not a lot of heat just fresh pepper, little more chocolate late.
Taste brings more chocolate out front, more like chocolate water as it's not creamy or rich, cocoa flavored thin malty water, with a little caramel and toasty brown malts, then more body and malt kick in and it's not so thin anymore, some cocoa dust and mocha, with a little smoke but barely any smoke at all. Pepper is there but not nearly like the nose, a little fresh poblano like pepper, no heat at all at first. Later the heat starts to kick in on the back of the throat, a little chili pepper heat, with sticky malt finish, not dry at all, little more mocha and cocoa lingering.
Mouth is med bod, a little chewy after a thin start, lighter carb.
Overall interesting, the nose was nice with pepper, the taste it wasn't quite there just a little heat, smoke was missing almost completely throughout, cocoa chocolate malt was nice, body ended up nice in the end, carb was a little low even for a growler. Not too bad though.
