750 ml bottle, batch L14071-1, best by 03-2016. Pours slightly hazy reddish orange with a medium creamy off white head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is acidic tart brett and sourness with some musty funk.

The flavor is lots of tart, mouth-puckering lactic sourness with a little fruitiness and some funk in the background. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some prickly carbonation.

Overall, a very nice sour.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Dark murky orange with good sized off-white.

Smell: I smelled some whiskey upon pouring, but that mostly disappeared once settled. Otherwise, notes of lemon, sour apple, oak and pepper. Not quite as fragrant as some Sours.

Taste: Very nice mix of flavors going on here. There is the standard Sour taste of apple cider vinegar and lemons - pretty sour overall. Some nice oak, spice and pepper notes, with some sips giving a stronger Whiskey presence. There is a touch of rustic red wine as well, more akin to the table wines found in Italy, Spain or the Rhone Valley. Lingering oak and sour notes.

Feel: Moderately high carbonation. Body is hard to determine as with many Sours, but this seems to be a little fuller than many due to the 9% abv. Finish is tart and dry of course.

Overall: This is a very nice, complex Wild Ale. Too bad I never was able to try the earlier iterations of Love Child, but I will certainly keep an eye out for future ones.

Amber to slightly reddish hued with a fair amount of cloudiness. Just a trace of beige foam covers about a third of the top. Aroma of very tart cherries and horse blanket. The taste is extremely mouth puckering tartness. Initially it's highly acidic and tart cherries. The mouth is highly carbonated and highly acidic. Highly refreshing and yet a beer that you have to be ready for an overpowering burst of tartness.

A – Amber/Honey coloured, with near perfect transparency. Allowed for 2 fingers of soft, attractive, beige head, which dissipated completely within 20 seconds (unsurprising considering high ABV and acidity) This brew looks quite promising.

S – Immediately, I smell the oak barrels and some subdued sweet aromas follow this up. Maybe it's the colour of the brew, but I smell honey. There's also a sour cherry aroma to it.

T – In this reviewer's opinion, comparisons to champagne are spot-on. There's a strong sweetness that's immediately overlapped by the powerful tartness of cherries and wild yeast (though the flavor itself is far from bread or biscuit tones that a yeasty beer tends to illicit). The sweetness fades almost immediately, and doesn't overstay it's welcome like with some darker styles. The oak wood is present, but never overtakes the other flavors. It's apparent that this is a meticulously crafted blend. For a wild ale, it's surprising in it's clean simplicity. No hint of booze.

M – In a word, "sharp" against the tongue, but pleasantly so. High carbonation, but still gives the impression of refinement. Too often beers will be highly carbonated in order to cover up imperfections in the flavor, but this one finds a perfect balance as the flavors are complimented and never overtaken. The finish is light, and leaves you desiring another taste.

O – Without a doubt, the champagne of beers. The artful and meticulous construction is readily apparent, and the flavors are delicious. In spite of a 9% ABV, I've never finished 750 mL of craft beer so quickly by myself. I'm definitely biased toward beer, but I would take a bottle of this Kansas City beer over Dom Perignon any day (bearing in mind I've only tried the '96). Expect cherries with hints of honey and oak delivered with the cleanest mouthfeel this style has to offer. An excellent beer to share with friends, but I'd rather keep every drop for myself.

If you love sours, this is perfectly refreshing, great and light. Was recommended locally here but heard its hard to find. Highly recommend if you are a sour lover. I am not a wine fan and tend to stay away from brews aged in wine barrels but it was not "winey" at all.

Only a parent can love The Love Child #4...you must like sour beers to enjoy this one. For me....not so much....probably my least favorite from Boulevard. The beer pour a cloudy amber with not head and no lace. The scent had bourbon and sour mash. The taste was very potent and tart similar to lemonhead candy. There were hints of bourbon and white wine. The mouthfeel was medium in body with little carbonation. Overall not a beer for me....glad to have tried it....but that's about it.
