Deep brown color with plenty of co2 rolling up the side of the glass. A creamy tan head with good retention leaves a good layer and sticky lace. Aroma is of hops, malt and caramel. Mouthfeel is lively and effervescent; medium bodied, smooth and leaves a bite at the end. Flavor is of roasted barley, malt, coffee and a dry hop bite at the finish.

A decent beer, but the dominance of the roasted/bitter flavors throws off the balance.

Thanks to fellow Buffalo BA orfeu for this bottle I opened right after I walked in the door, poured a deep brown almost black with a big blooming tannish colored head that took its time settling slowly.Raw earthy aromas really stick out here slight woodiness and light coffee notes,as like the nose I fownd it somewhat reaw and earthy with woody, unsweetened chocolate and cola notes,a pretty abrupt finish to it the flavors dont linger much.A decent porter I have had better but its drinkable.

This is a very dark ruby porter with a healthy dingy canvas colored head that leaves a thick lacing. The nose is great. Whisps of floral hops drift over a big coacoa scent.

The taste does not disappoint. Starts metallic and then goes creamy with earthy flavors supporting herbal hop flavor. The beer has a good dark cola character and is bready at times. There is an underlying chcolate flavor throughout that comes out strongest in the aftertaste. Every now and then there is a taste of alcohol.

Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Some might like that but I think porters should be a bit thinner. I could drink gallons of this none the less.

Pours a very dark brown, with ruby-red highlights. Nice, slowly receding head doesn't leave much lace. Smells of chocolate and a bit of coffee, perhaps a little raisin. Taste is quite nice, a touch of coffee, a little chocolate, but especially dark fruits, such as raisins.

Pretty good porter here, although I prefer Summit's and Sierra Nevada's. I've seen this one for a while now and never grabbed it. I'm glad I did, because it's good, but in the future, I'll stick with those other two...

Pours from the stubby brown bottle a nice charcoal black with a volumious khaki frappe head on top. Only a sliver of light penetration. Sticky lacing...enticing. Aromas of charred, roasted grains entangled with cocoa powder and a drop of vanilla extract. Sticky, herbal hops arouse the senses as well. Nuanced and refined with a wonderful head that lingers on.

First sip arrives with a lavish charred, burnt dark malt. Wisps of smoke meander in and out on the palate. Unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla, timid ground coffee. Hints of dry, grainy chalkiness smack the roof of the mouth. Lingering with a toasty herbal hop presence on the finish. A robust and tasty porter that doesn't let me down.

Expansive carbonation works well with the chewy malt body. Near perfect porter consistency. Satisfying and easy to consume. A bit drier and more robust than many other porters, but it suits it well. Wouldn't mind a few more of these right now. Thanks go out to fellow BA babydoc for the chance to try this one.

Very dark for a porter, approaching pitch black, but has some reddish highlights coming through. Nice tan head, full inch thick that reduced to a quarter inch of dense foam. A thick coating of lacing covers the glass.

Rich dark chocolate prevades the nostrils, a bit of sweetness comes through. Simple aroma, but its quite strong.

Taste is bittersweet chocolate with some coffee hints. Again quite good. Simple but good.

Decent mouthfeel, maybe a touch thin. Okay carbonation levels, adds some crispness.

Really good drinkability. Nice aroma and flavor makes this one easy to put back. Sits light on the stomach. I could have several.

Poured a dark brown with a huge creamy tan head that had great retention and lots of lacing.

The aroma was figs, sweet chocolate and light hops.

The flavor was slightly sweet chocolate malts, figs, and coffee with a light bitter finish. A well balanced beer. The mouthfeel was creamy and velvety (carbonation just right) with a medium to thin body.

Overall, a very fine porter.

12 oz short brown bottle with a twist off cap, no freshness date.

Appearance: The head is quick to foam but slow to dissipate, some stickage is noted. Nearly pitch black in colour.

Smell: Faint black currant fruitiness, mild yeast, soft charcoal and espresso in the nose. Nice aromatics.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Nice level of hops, the herbal bitterness does not go overboard within the sturdy base of malt. Roasted flavours are uniform with highly roasted coffee, dark chocolate and burnt grain flavours. Ghost like fruitiness of black currants and elder berries. Finishes clean and semi-dry with some faint esters in the back.

Notes: A notch or two above the normal run of porters, a sure fine pick for beer drinkers in the Central Part of the US.

12 oz bottle. Best by 10/30/05. Dark brown with garnet highlights. Thick tan head with some lacing. Mediun roast coffee, burnt brown sugar, american hops. Bitterness all around. In the hops and malts. Awful lot of carbonation. One of BLVD’s best brews.

Last bottle from a sampler box, this one pours a gorgeous dark chestnut body with a tall cocoa head. Retention is excellent and there is an abundance of sticky lace left on the pint glass. Aroma is a bit understated but teases with milk chocolate and a berry fruitiness. Medium body has a tad too much carbonation. Taste begins with some bitter roasted notes, followed by a wave of dark chocolate and subtle hops. A hint of dark berry underneath. A very enjoyable and highly drinkable American porter.

Appearance: dark brown in color, 1 inch head, clear, high carbonation

Smell: roasted malt, cocoa, and BOSCO

Taste: roasted and toasted malt, earthy hoppiness, leather, dark chocolate, and slight tobacco

Mouthfeel: medium-heavy bodied, high carbonation, sweet a semi-dry bitter end

Overall: a nice and full porter. Slightly above average of the rest, but nothing I would go out of my way for unlike several of Boulevard's other offerings.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is heavy on the chocolate with a little roasted malt mixed in. This is one of the most chocolate-forward porters I have tried.

The flavor is more of the same. I get a ton of chocolate with some roasted malt and coffee also mixed in. I also get a little bit of bitterness from the hops, but I can't really notice any hop flavor.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel and a high, prickly carbonation. The high carbonation is my only complaint.

12oz. squat amber bottle. Best by 6/19/04...uh-oh.

Poured a very dark brown in color, allowing light to pass only at the edges. Quite thick and long-lasting tan-colored head laces nicely. Flavors are roasted malt, cark chcocolate, even some dark fruit. Flavor is roasted coffee, toasted malt, and some earthy bitterness. Finishes almost like a dry stout, with a low level of chocolate and lots of dry bitterness. Good mouthfeel, just the right level of carbonation. A very smooth and well-balanced porter.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Extremely dark brown with moderate tan head and slight lacing.

Smell: Roasted malt, dark chocolate and bitter coffee.

Taste: Strong roasted malt dominates, with some coffee and dark chocolate. Turns somewhat bitter at the end due to both the heavily roasted malt and English hops.

Feel: Moderately low carbonation, medium body. Smooth but also a little chalky. Very dry finish.

Drinkability: Overall, a more than solid example of the style even if nothing truly stands out and grabs your attention.
