Boulevard’s summer seasonal is our interpretation of a classic Belgian witbier. ZŌN (Flemish for “sun”) combines the subtle flavors of coriander and orange peel with other traditional ingredients to create a delightful, refreshing summertime brew.

Pale yellow, cloudy body. Thin, bubbly white head on the pour, half inch thick. Reduced to nothing. Strong banana in the nose, clove rounds it out. Pretty typical for a wheat beer. Predominate wheat taste, banana and clove again. This is pretty standard again but its pretty good. Nice spiciness on the tongue. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Crisp and fairly carbonated. Nothing outstanding flavorwise, but this is somewhat expected. I like this though. Nice and refreshing, crisp. Just what I expect.

12 oz bottle, best by 8/3/09. Pours a hazy dark yellow with a pillowy white head that quickly goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is wheaty malts with some banana and clove spices and a little sweet fruit.

The flavor is very subdued - some wheat malts with some light banana/clove spices and bitterness at the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, it's pretty subdued and flavorless. Otherwise had potential to be good wit.

The beer pours a hazy, milky light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very nice. I get a lot of orange and coriander with some vanilla mixed in as well.

The flavor is not as nice as the aroma, but it still tastes pretty good. The taste starts off with some orange peel notes and then the coriander and wheat come in.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Chalice.

Appearance: Very cloudy, pale yellow with frothy white head at first but quickly dies down, leaving very little behind.

Smell: Orange peel, clove, coriander and banana. All of the usual Wit players in full form.

Taste: Strong mixture of wheat and orange, with light coriander and cloves. Wheat-like aftertaste detracts slightly, as it should end more spicy.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, light body, barely dry finish.

Drinkability: Good, refreshing Wit overall that could use a drier and more spicy finish.

Pale cloudy yellow with a sizeable airy head. Not much lacing.

Smells of spices and citrus peels.

Tastes of citrus, pepper, maybe some corriander, and mild hops.

Smooth and easy to drink, but a little too light. It's not bad though and is a bit refreshing.

Well-sedimented pale yellow with that greenish Wit tint. Minimal head, speckly in bubble sizes. Lace is very limited to dots. Clove aroma, faintest bit of orangey notes, coriander not noticeable. Flavor comes off very uniform and non-complex, all the elements come together quickly except for that slightly medicinal sense I get late in the swallow on a lot of Witbiers. Rolling ester impressions, tinged by an almost pesto-like basil herbal botanical quality. Within bounds for the style. Well-done Wit, perhaps a bit lacking in mouthfeel at the end, where it seems to flatten and get just a bit watery.

This beer pours a pale straw yellow color, with a very thin white head. The head fades very fast, leaving a decent lacing.

This beer has a grainy aroma. It has a spicy, coriander like aroma as well. It smells of lemony citrus as well.

This beer tastes pretty much like it smells. Grain and spice up front. Lemon citrus hops after that.

This beer is crisp and refreshing. It leaves a slightly unappealing bandaide like aftertaste.

This beer would probably make a good session beer. If the listed alcohol content can be believed, it can consumed in quantity.

Overall: Thanks go to Vancer for this beer. I really liked it. The onlt problem was the bandaide aftertaste. It is still worth drinking.

(Served in a weizen glass)
A- This beer has a hazy dark yellow body with a strong carbonation of bubbles, supporting a head of thin bubbly white foam. The color looked a bit like brown lemons.

S- The big floral yeast notes had a lemon note and a slightly sweet white bread note to finish.

T- The dry crisp lemon zest flavor was followed by a soft bread dough note and a dry carbonic acid finish. The green hop finish was soft but increased and turned a bit piney as the beer warmed.

M- The dry light mouthfeel had a slight cider texture, kind of like water but slippery, and a tight fizz finish.

D- This is a crisp refreshing beer with some good flavor but more fruit that malt/wheat flavors. There was a good amount of hops at the finish and the sweetness that came through as it warmed was soft but nice.

It's May and Kansas CIty hits its first stretch of 80-90 degree days.
ZON is introduced for the summer season right on cue.

It has a delicate white head that quickly efferevesces away.
The brew is a hazy/milky juice color. My allergy troubled nose senses spice (peppery) and some citrus.

The flavor is definitely of spice and lemony but not overwhelming where you forget you are drinking a beer. (Label says brewed with orange peels and coriander).

The finish leaves you with a slight puckering and is not full.
With an ABV at just 3.4% this beer is engineered for summer quaffing and sweating!

In tandem with their Unfiltered Wheat, the Boulevard guys have a good summer line up- though I'll probably drink more of the Pale.
