Irish Ale, Boulevard’s early spring seasonal beer, is our Midwestern tribute to the legendary red ales of old Ireland. Our recipe combines six kinds of pale and roasted barley malts to provide a rich, toasty flavor and tawny reddish hue.

Boulevard Irish Red pours a light shade of mahogany, with a half-inch of off white head that provides spotty, yet sticky lace. Sweet malt, caramel, and some herbal hops are noticeable in the nose, with the slightest hints of roasted malt discernible as well. The flavors of this brew closely follow the nose, with the sweet malt dominating the pallet out front, hints of caramel and toffee poking through, and a long, sustained finish with a touch of floral hop flavor and bitterness in the end. A medium level of carbonation is met with a medium-high body. Another wonderful example of the "Irish Red Ale" category.

Poured into a pint glass. 2 finger creamy tan head. Beautiful mahogany red color, smell reminds me of Oktoberfest. Wonderful malt flavor at the front of the palate reminiscent of classic Munich malts. Smooth finish. Overall a decent entry for this brewer.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours deep red with a nice off white head. Smells of caramelized grain and fresh fruit. Tastes of sweet fruit and caramelized grain. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Amber hued with an inch of densely packed, creamy brown on top. It quickly dissipated into a quarter inch. Light, soapy lacing. The aroma is faint, but I get a touch of caramel and lightly toasted malt. I’m tasting caramel and a lightly bready malt. The mouth is light and unobtrusive.

L: dark red amber
S: roasted malt and earthy hop
T: sweet roasted malt followed by sharp earthy hop bite that slowly fades.
F:med to full mouth feel
Overall: I love this style but most I have tried seem flavorless after one beer. Blvd Irish ale is the exception more hop bite and stronger roast than most makes it a tastier beer for 2-3 sweet spot drinking.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip pint glass. Pours a light amber/copper color with a moderate head. Aroma features caramel malt, light grassy/citrus hops, and a slight metallic whiff. Flavor is similar and a bit more bitter than I expected. Mouthfeel is crisp and nicely carbonated. Overall it's a nice beer for a sunny spring afternoon.

Dark copper amber body with a finger of tan head, lacing abounds. Caramel malt, dark grains, and dried berries in the nose. Taste again gives me dried berries, like elderberry or mulberry, plenty of malt flavor, a hint of anise and whisper of vanilla cream. A sweet irish red for sure. Feel is malty all the way, with decent creaminess without losing the light crushability of the style.

This was really average at best and a little light bodied and light in flavor as well, definitely not malty enough for my taste. It wasn't terrible but I see no need to purchase again as there's a lot more Irish Reds that make it to Ohio than Colorado

Appearance: Pours a dark amber, nearly bronze color with a strong, light tan head. SRM of 17. (4.25)
Aroma: Mild to minimal aromas. Some caramel, red fruit, and light dark malt and brown sugar aromas. (3.25)
Flavor: The flavor follows with mild brown malt flavors of caramel and brown bread/sugar. Slightly smokey too. Minimal flavor before it finishes watery. (3.50)
Feel: Medium to heavier bodied. Mild carbonation. Drinks flat and somewhat watery behind the big body here. (3.50)
Compared to Smithwick's Irish Red Ale 4/7/21: Pours a similar color with a stronger and darker tan head. Milder aromas/flavors. Slightly more malty caramel. Less ruby red fruit and root beer.
Overall: There's not much here with this beer. I was expecting some interesting amber flavors, especially for the relatively higher ABV. But this one was quite bland and simple. Nearly no aroma. The flavor is mild. It hides the alcohol, but also the flavor quite well. Slightly better as it warms. Somewhat surprised and how simple and forgettable this beer is for being from Boulevard. (Final Rating: 3.49)
