Presentation: Poured on draft last night at The Libertine into a pint glass.

A: This beer pours a very dark red color with little to no head, and minimal lacing that doesn't coat the glass except on sides where I haven't drank from.

S: The smell was actually pretty awesome. A light roastiness to the smell and smells like a typical red ale without any skunkiness whatsoever. Sweet malts are present as well.

T: Taste is maybe the best red ale I've ever had. I have not explored deep into this style (I've maybe drank a 12-15 red ales) but I do not like extreme bitterness in the finish, and this beer has almost none. It is done so well I'm not even sure how they did it. This won't please those of you who like for example a Red Rocket Ale as it is not in the same vein, but for me this was absolutely perfect.

M: A little bit undercarbonated which goes along well with this style, but I would have preferred more anyway. It's also a little bit thin.

D: Extremely high. The low carbonation, alcohol content, and smoothness make this beer very easy to drink. I had 2 last night in probably 30 mins and I was not straining to drink them that fast, it just felt right.

Overall I think this beer was brought in for the upcoming St. Patrick's day festivities, as the bar I had it at is right in the heart of the Dallas Parade route. The beer is very drinkable, and for me that makes it good. Smooth, sweet, with a great finish/aftertaste, and no bitterness make this one of my favorite red ales!!

Pours a dark amber with average size, creamy off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, slight caramel, toffee and smoke flavors. Slightly earthy, yeasty, but the hops are blended and not in forefront of this ale. Bottle conditioned. Lacing mostly diminishes. Taste is lightly sweet with a slight bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and light alcohol presence. Pretty good for its class. Also, the bottles I purchased were all at 5.8% ABV. Not sure where you are getting the 4.26%. Even another site has ABV for this beer at 5.3% Please look into this - Cheers!

Presentation: 12 oz short bottle, comes in a fully enclosed six pack. First Boulevard beer I've seen on the shelves in Colorado. Best by date printed on the neck, ABV listed along with ingredients.

Appearance: Hazy red, thin head with a bit of lacing.

Smell: Not great - a bit metallic and some cooked vegetable, reminds me of extract home brew.

Taste: Tastes better than it smells - a solid malty body with just a bit of hops in there to balance it.

Overall impression: I hate to say it, but this one is better enjoyed straight from the bottle - it makes a decent session beer. When it opens up, the aroma is less than pleasant.

Clear brass and copper. 3 finger light tan head, very billowy, falls slowly. A few sheets of lace.
Aroma is sweet malt, honey, slightly floral.
Taste is pretty robust for the light aroma with more bitterness than the nose suggests. I expect more sweetness to start. Decent balance tends toward a drying bitterness in the finish.
Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

A nice session brew that can complement a wide variety of foods. Bitterness is on the high side for an Irish red.

Poured into a pint mug.

A-Pristinely clear red-copper brew, topped with a light and frothy tan head, which retained nicely.

S-Toasty malts, slightly spicy.

T-slightly fruity flavors alongside spicy hops. Toasty, busscuity malts mix with a bit of caramel. Hop bitterness is aggressive and sustains through the flavor into the finish, which is clean and bitter.

M-Medium carbonation, medium-light body, crisp.

D-A very sessionable brew. I drank a few of these last weekend and was quite pleased. Again tonight, pleased with this brew.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

A- A medium colored clear amber with a light tan head. Leaves pretty good lacing from the light film that stays at the top of the beer.

S- Very light biscuit smell. That's all that I'm really picking.

T- Sweet, malty biscuit taste that blends well with the slight bitterness that comes at the end. Really blended well.

M- Really smooth, the carbination and slight bitterness gives it a good crispness that cleanses the palate and finishes clean.

D- It's not really filling and has a smooth enough taste that makes is really easy to drink and the fairly low ABV makes it possible to drink alot of these.

An Irish Ale. Just what a freakin beer snob wants as an extra in a trade.

Not so fast. This one has compelled me to rethink my attitude about this style that is guilty by association from commercial exploitation.

Attractive ruby red into a standard pint glass. Enticing sweet aroma. Can this one deliver with flavor?

Yes. Fruity and malty with a crisp dry finish. Very refreshing and drinkable.

Certainly would be nice if one could enter an *Irish* pub and enjoy one or two of these.

On tap (on tour) after two days of beer judging in KC at 26th KC Biermeisters Homebrew Competion.

I would have given this a good shot at B.O.S. even with some outstanding homebrewed beers in competition.

Clarity and Color are ideal (deep reddish copper/garnet tinted) for an Irish Red. Aroma and Flavors are crisp clean and most drinkable. Very clean fermentation character with a finish that dries a bit of residual sweetness (dextrins give a satisfying Mouthfeel ideal to style) from the higher mash temp. Obviously has a complex malt bill. Tour guide Poncho thought possibly 6 malts in grist.

Much better than past bottle version but Boulevard has a new state of the art brew house. It sure pays off on this beer!

On homebrewer on the tour reported have the just released bottled '09 version and found the tapped Red far superior.

Pours a slightly hazy, amber color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of hops, sweet malt, and slight spice (coriander/ginger). Fits the style of an Irish Red Ale. Mouth feel is mooth and crisp with average carbonation. Tastes of roasted malt up front, sweet malt, and then some hops. The roasted malt dominates the finish which is also slightly dry. Overall, not a bad beer, but nothing out of the norm.

Poured into a pint glass it poured kind of a dark red and brown color. It had about a one finger head that disappeared rather fast leaving very little lacing down the glass. The aroma is very sweet, caramel smelling. The taste of this beer is very sweet, and has a a kind of tea taste to it. Not bad at all and fairly drinkable especially with a fairly low ABV. It's not a style I drink a lot but I definitely could drink this pretty easily.

A - pours a murky amber color with no foam but a ring of bubbles around the glass

S - caramel malts and hints of fruit

T - sweet malts and fruitiness along with some earthy hops that add a bit of bite

M/D - easy to drink, the flavor is just ok, nice carbonation, but overall nothing too outstanding

A - Brownish red with off-white 2 finger head. Good lacing.
S&T - Carmel malt with some faint notes of fruit. Light on the hops.
M - Medium mouthfeel. Proper amount of carbonation for the style
D - This is one of my favorite styles for session drinking. A good example of an Irish ale. I could drink a few of these!

Pours a fairly clear ruby color with a nice cap of creamy light beige head. Pretty good retention and some lacing is evident. A good looking beer.

Surprisingly has a lightly fruity nose, cherries and maybe some sort of melon. Plenty of sweet caramely malts here, perhaps some unfermentable sugars were left in here. Maybe a touch of grassy hops here and there, but not much.

Whoa, taste pulls a 180 here and gets much more Irish ale-like. It still has a sweet feel to it, but much more toasty. Hop bitterness is there as well, and to a much lesser extent some hop flavor. Fruitiness found in the nose diminishes significantly. Pretty light bodied and moderately carbonated. A good session ale with plenty of flavor.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy caramel color with a frothy head; nice retention and a bit of lace

Smell: Toast and caramel, with an earthy hop aspect

Taste: Starts out toasty, with a building caramel flavor; just when you thought this beer was all about the malt, a nice earthy, almost tea-like hop bitterness kicks in to balance things out; after the swallow, the finish is fairly low key, with a subtle remembrance of the flavor profile

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: A fine session ale, that has enough flavor to make things interesting

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours a slightly cloudy mahogany with copper highlights around the edges. Smallish light tan head that dissipates, with some nice lacing.

Nose of toasted bread, with some hoppy earthiness in the background. Flavors of toasted bread and caramel, with some moderate hop bitterness coming in toward the end. Well balanced. Medium bodied, with a sort of sharp carbonation. Not overly bubbly, just kind of sharp. Finishes dry.

Poured into New Belgium Globe glass.

Color is a dark mahogany. Pours a tan head that leaves some decent lacing.

Aroma is mainly malts. A lot of carmel and nut smell is present. There are some slight hops present.

Taste is very malty. There is definately a bread taste and some earthy hops. The carmel comes back as well.

Mouthfeel is very bitter. Leaves a sticky aftertaste.

Overall, at 4.26% abv this is a very sessionable beer. It is a really great irish red and something I could easily buy again.

Pours a clear copper color sparse bubbles rising to a big fluffy off white head that falls slow and laces well.

Aroma is nice caramel malts with a dose of herbal hops and touches of nuts, toffee or toast perhaps.

Taste is like the aroma nice caramel malts with good herbal hop notes thru out. Toffee is noted in taste lightly toasted grains. Nice red ale with decent hop bite. Plain simple tasty red.

Mouthfeel is light medium maybe feels touch lighter due to carbonation that adds some pep but not too much.

Drinkability is good an enjoyable red ale very tasty easy drinking, could see buying this again for a session brew wouldn't replace my favorite red but is a nice change.

Presentation: 12oz brown twist-off bottle with attractive Celtic-themed label and clearly marked "best by" date of May, 2009

Appearance: Ever so slightly hazed dark burnt orange beer capped with a dark ivory cap with medium retention.

Smell: Notes of toffee and biscuit, a mild sharp roastiness, and herbal hops.

Taste: Very light roasted flavors, with a somewhat dry breadiness, a touch of caramel, and earthy, herbal hops. Ends dry with a medium tea-like bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, a bit prickly in the carbonation though.

Drinkability: Session. Red. Ale.

Conclusion: Samuel Adams' Irish Red may claim to be a bit hoppier that typical for the style; Boulevard's is even more so. It's got a decent kick of bitterness on the finish, along with nice, herbal hop flavors and a touch of roastiness that makes this quite tasty.

Received as a sample from a friendly beer distributor rep.

Pours a deep reddish-amber colour with a foamy off-white head that dissipates quickly to leave a few small bubbles. I probably shouldn't be reviewing any beers during the height of cedar pollen season, but even though I'm pretty bunged up today I'm still getting a good nose off this beer. Plenty of hops, a bit of spice and some yeasty breadiness. Once in the mouth there's a nice balance of maltiness but the hops are still to the fore. Full bodied but a little over-carbonated I feel. Even so, I'd go back to the bar for another one of these.

served from a 12oz. bottle into a New Belgium globe glass

Pours a nice, iced tea color with great clarity. The average sized off-white head is full of the typical Boulevard small bubbles, and leaves some spidery lacing.

Malts and hops hit the nose. A touch of caramel, too, and maybe some nutty qualities. Toffee on the back end.

What a balanced taste! The malt profile is a great mix of grainy and sweet. Some of the sweetness is of a vanilla persuasion. The kiss of hops on the finish really add positives to this beer; the drying finish they create is appreciated.

It is medium-bodied, which works well. The carbonation makes this a tad prickly on the tongue. As far as drinkability goes, this is a great session candidate. There is just enough going on to keep it interesting all night long.

What can I say? Another good seasonal brew from Boulevard.

A huge but slowly growing tan head tops off right above the rim of the pint glass where it stays for an extended period of time. When it finally recedes some big chunks of lace are left behind. Aromatically there's some sweet malts, bubblegum, green apples and hops. Tastes sweet and a bit spicy, with a good hop bite on the way down. This is a light to medium bodied, quite tasty, almost perfectly balanced ale that can run with any of the big dogs.

2010 outing:

Dark reddish-brown in color with a slightly less than one-finger tan head that really never fades completely, only shrinking a bit, and leaving a thin lace behind. Smells malty and slightly spicy with a hint of wet grass in the background. Tastes big on the caramel malts with an undercurrent of bubblegum and a slight hint of hops in the very back. Goes down on the dry side and is fairly carbonated with a pure medium mouth-feel. Tasty brew here of a style that can end up a little weak sometimes. Liking this one.

Poured into a Boulevard pint glass.

Appearance: Has a reddish-amber clear colored body. Poured a fluffy off white head. Looks pretty nice. Some lacing.

Nose: Not a lot here (that I can pick up anyways). Some hops in the nose, which makes up most of the aroma. Some caramel? Maybe some other sweets, fruitiness maybe.

Taste: Sort of reminds me of Fat Tire. There is some bready, yeasty flavors. Kind of like gooey biscuits. Some brighter notes are noticeable. Hints of fruits, and some hops. This is pretty balanced and rounded.

Mouth: Nice carbonation. Pretty light feeling. Leaves the mouth nice and light.

Drink: Pretty drinkable. Not bad, nothing exceptional.

Notes: This really reminds me of Fat Tire.

Appearance: A deep mahogany color with a thin white head.
Smell: Roasted malt, yeast, caramel and hints of citrus.
Taste is toasted malt hints of molasses, and a hint of citrus. Overall: This is a good Irish style beer by boulevard. There is a slight bitterness with a clean crisp finish. The body is medium to light.

Posted on my blog in March, copied & pasted in October, as wait for spring again.

I am drinking an Irish Ale right now. It is an irish red brewed by my friendly neighborhood brewer, Boulevard. I love the Irish Ale. I even love the Celtic-ish label. It pours a deep reddish/caramel color with a decent foamy head that settles into lacing for the entire beer. It smells like sweet caramel, a little bready and malty, and a bit fruity. The taste is also caramel malts and sweet, but has some nuttiness, and a tiny hint of hops. The body is fairly light, and sparsely carbonated, and basically I love this beer.

Received this in a trade as an extra. Bottle says best buy 05/01/09. Very nice semi-transparent carmel. Macro looking carbonation with little to no lacing, not in a bad way to the style.

Malt and iced tea. Some metal alcohol feeling.

Right as I read the label "produce a secondary fermentation in the bottle" I taste a hint of unfiltered hefe. Just a tad yeasty, nice. Litle tea, light malt. Clean and fresh. No hops to speak of.

Some ABV, nice pub beer.

Not one I would look after, might try on tap local. I could put down a pitcher of this and not be sad.
