Our fall seasonal beer, Bob’s ’47 Oktoberfest is a medium-bodied, dark amber brew with a malty flavor and well-balanced hop character. With this Munich-style lager we salute our friend Bob Werkowitch, Master Brewer and graduate of the U.S. Brewer’s Academy, 1947.

I'm a big fan of Oktoberfest, and this is one of the best Oktoberfest brews you can buy.. every time I see this brew for sale I get excited! It has a great marzen lager taste but still with the boulevard beer taste. You can tell easily it's a boulevard and an Oktoberfest in one which is a Great combination. I will say compared to other oktoberfests this isn't quite as Sweet.. Maybe from the added yeast in each bottle? But either way this is a Great Brew, one of my favs.. Highly recommended! Wish they sold it year round!

A standard pour of Boulevard Brewing's Bob's 47 Oktoberfest yields a bright burnt-orange body capped by an inch of white fizz. Carbonation is moderate; random streams of small bubbles rise steadily towards the top.

The nose suggests that Bob's 47 will be slightly hoppier than most Märzens, especially German ones. But don't let the hoppiness fool you. The malts are up front and personal here. Toasted bread, caramel, almonds, freshly cut grass, and chrysanthemum flowers.

The taste follows the nose closely at first, but takes on some new, exiting directions in the long aftertaste. Therein, sweet, nutty malts are slowly overtaken by bitter hops (perfectly balanced to my palate). Thus, what starts as a sweet hang ends dry and crisp. Excellent.

The rich malt profile makes for a rich mouthfeel with plenty of foam. Outstanding.

Bob's 47 is certainly among the best American Märzens I've tasted to date. In fact, I'm convinced that it would stand up to my favorite Oktoberfests from across the Atlantic. I'll be sure to pick up a bottle next year. I hope that Chimay, which has recently purchased Boulevard Brewing, doesn't change the recipe.

A-Dark Reddish Amber/Light Brownish, Filtered and very visible when held up to light. Very little foam on top of beer after being poured into a standard pint glass. Very little to no retention on sides of the glass when the beer is swirled around. Fair amount of bubble are visible ascending from bottom of the glass to the top of the beer.
S- Heavy scent of malts with a nutty scent with also a hint of floral combinations. Mild hop scent as well with a more perfumy scent to complement the malts and wheat aroma.
T- I picked up on strong malts at first taste with with hints of nuts and caramel giving the beer a warm and semi sweet taste to start. After the initial taste, the beer finished with a medium bitterness of hoppy taste but the taste of the strong malts remained in the mouth after finishing the drink.
F- Sits on the palate with a medium to heavy feel that would be expected from this style of beer. Finishes quite smoothly as it goes down the throat and leaves a heavy after taste in the mouth.
O- Very tasty beer well suited for the autumn through winter seasons. Fairly strong taste of caramel and nutty malts provide a warming taste appropriate for the season as well as a nice full smooth finish.

Pours a nice, soft, off-white head that has good retention. Sweet malt with a slightly spicy hoppiness. Hazy, straw-amber color. Starts with a spicy hoppiness, a flash of metallic, then biscuits. Into the finish, the spicy hops come back (this time with more of the bitterness) and blend with the biscuit to make for an interesting sweet/spicy-bitter combination.

This is pretty good. It starts with spicy hops and finishes with them. The between parts are a little boring, but it's pretty good overall.
