Bottle into The Bruery tulip, Batch 2009-2. Review #800. Big thank you to Lane (Stepehens101) for sending this one my way more than a year ago!
Pours a beautiful, absolutely crystal clear orange-gold with a towering cream colored dense white head. Nice lacing, pretty good retention.
Nose is beautiful - clean, bright, and crystal clear. Candied orange peel, big barnyard presence, bright lemony acidity, a bit of vanilla from the yeast, fresh cut hay. This is everything good about farmhouse ales.
Taste carries the same initial brightness as found in the nose with more candy like orange notes, though quickly balanced by a slight mustiness from the prominent barnyard notes. Fresh hay in the nose is a bit grassier here, quickly drying out the finish and adding a light, refreshing bitterness, even after a couple of years. Brett takes a big role here, bigger than the nose, the very refined - fantastic blend that never gets too rough or coarse after the initial candy citrus notes are overwhelmed.
Mouthfeel is soft, refined, massaging the tongue with tiny bubbles over a light body. Very nicely balanced, plenty of carbonation without ever letting it get out of control. Dry on the finish. Beautifully drinkable, as perfect as I could ever expect - I had downed half a bottle before I even knew it. Lucky for me that my wife isn't a saison fan, since it left this one all to me. Balanced, complex, refreshing. Lived up to the hype.

From about a year earlier ('13 bottle)
Gargantuan white frothy head, slightly hazy golden body, ample carbonation.
Smells perfumy, barnyard funk is there, some herb/ basil, light spice. Very nice, refreshing scent and yet complex to the nose. I'm hoping this tastes as phenomenal as it now smells, as well as how I recall it tasting the first and only time I tried this a couple of years ago..
It certainly does. First sip recalls how flavorful this is, with the spice notes just right, hop very well-balanced in the mix. There's the unusual bubble-gum-like flavor (to some may be like apple) and finish that must be credited to the use of the brettanomyces. Bready malts, juicy, and then a drier end with some prickly feel upon the finish. Much going on here, and it's all right.
Creamy smooth mouth, medium carbonation, refreshing, complex. For me this is the best saison I've ever had. 5's across the board when I get this impression. Extra bottle to cellar a bit (not for much longer).
...Update: Just popped the other cellared '13. Still fantastic. Much of the same impressions, although a bit more prickly, spicy and dry-finishing than I recall upon having this when purchased like last time.
Still the best of the style I've tasted, although if aging I'd recommend no more than 6-8 months. I like this better "fresh."

Poured a cloudy gold with minimal head. Caramel and dates move into flowers and pepper, with some cherry esters and a wiff of funk. Sweet with a mild tartness and some alcohol on the finish. Low hop bitterness and mild Goldings-type hop aroma. More complex and more Belgian than the Tank 7. The complexity imparted by the brett and whatever other bugs they threw in there make it a true saison.

Wonderful sasion.Light golden yellow in color. BIG head even when poured gently it's amazing. Great aroma. Light and fruity. Wonderful summer beer. Like it more than Tankhouse 7 which is a good beer. Definetly will have to go out by some more to keep stocked away for a later date.
