Poured from 750mL bottle into a tulip. This is batch 2009-1.
Appearance: first pour was extremely foamy, maybe 4 fingers or so of foam in my little tulip. Body is a very slightly hazy light golden color with a nice effervescence. Head retention is inconveniently good, and large globs of lace adorn the glass as it slowly dissipates.
Smell: very interesting. I must say, I'm intrigued by the combination of a sour brett beer with a funky saison. The malt has a mild but classic orchard aroma like a good tripel: pears and apples. On top of this is the funk: a musty, dusty yet somehow compelling aroma. Last of all is the sour, which enhances the apple and brings a fresh, springy character. Smells like I imagine a farm in the springtime. I daresay intoxicating.
Taste: rather similar indeed to the aroma. There is a nice bitterness thrown into the flavor melange, and I think there might be a little floral or piney hop flavor as well, but it's hard to clearly discern behind all the other flavors going on. This is a very good, complex and tasty beer; solid in creativity and execution.
Mouthfeel: extremely creamy and supple. Exactly what I like in a beer of these characteristics: almost like a crazy-complex tripel of doom.
Drinkability: again, extremely drinkable, especially for a beer of this ABV. I admit that sometimes saisons can be a drag on my palate when the flavors start to accumulate, but the brett here does a great job of ameliorating this. Likewise, the funk helps reduce the pucker factor ... just a super drinkable brew.

2014 vintage into my lucky Tabasco mug.
Look is pleasing, I'm glad this is a Farmhouse with some character. Bubbly, cloudy but bright. Head is very fluffy and dominates the glass but has nice latticing as it dissipates.
Smell is funky, but not as funky as I had hoped it would be. But BLVD isn't normally in the business of being funky. Mouthfeel is nothing special, it's not oily and it's not chunky so it's okay in my book.
Taste like very pleasing, there's the funk I was looking for in the smell. Citrus, and that taste you get in your mouth when you hit the rural, manure-plastered parts of Minnesota, but in a good way. As you have probably noticed, the 8.5% ABV is deceptive, as I am not even through two glasses yet and this review has pretty much gone pear-shaped (shout out to Paul Allen, the voice of the MN Vikings on KFAN!
