Saison / Farmhouse Ale |  8.50% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Saison-Brett, based on our very popular Tank 7, is assertively dry hopped, then bottle conditioned with various yeasts, including Brettanomyces, a wild strain that imparts a distinctive earthy quality. Though this farmhouse ale was given three months of bottle age prior to release, further cellaring will continue to enhance the “Brett” character, if that's what you're after.

Wow. Batch 2009-1. Poured into a tulip.

Pours a crystal clear lemon yellow with honeyed notes. Bubbly playful effervescence. A huge unstoppable mounding white head and plenty of sticky lace.
Aroma is bright fruit with a nice funk kick. Tart lemon, and a perfume hint that is alluring rather than off putting. Taste follows, bright, flavorful with a nice funk.
Nice light mouthfeel, the dryness comes a little late in the finish.

A really nice saison. Tasty.

Poured a cloudy gold with minimal head. Caramel and dates move into flowers and pepper, with some cherry esters and a wiff of funk. Sweet with a mild tartness and some alcohol on the finish. Low hop bitterness and mild Goldings-type hop aroma. More complex and more Belgian than the Tank 7. The complexity imparted by the brett and whatever other bugs they threw in there make it a true saison.

Wonderful sasion.Light golden yellow in color. BIG head even when poured gently it's amazing. Great aroma. Light and fruity. Wonderful summer beer. Like it more than Tankhouse 7 which is a good beer. Definetly will have to go out by some more to keep stocked away for a later date.

750 mL bottled purchased at Connecticut Ave. Wine and Liquors in Dupont Circle NW D.C., unknown brewing/bottling date but 2014 vintage (Batch #/BBD - SB14058-02-2016); drank over 30 minutes

A: 3/3 - pale yellow-to-golden coloration; impressively clear for a beer that is "assertively dry hopped;" pours from the bottle with huge frothy white head that barely settled down during drinking; tight, small white bubbles pouring off the bottom of the glass

S: 11/12 - lots of Amarillo on the nose - grapefruit, tangerine and lemon/lime; some peppery/spicy Belgian yeast and ripe/musty pineapple from Brett; pils malt and wheat with some alcohol notes to boot

T: 16/20 - low hop bitterness but really bright, refreshing citrus flavors immediately hit on first sip and continue to develop on the palate; as the flavor profile expands; the Belgian pils and yeast rear up - peppery, estery and coriander that evolves into a mild barnyard funk profile; mild alcohol flavors clean up to finish exceptionally dry and refreshing

M: 4/5 - very high carbonation; effervesent; light body

O: 8/10 - classic light Spring/Summer saison that is the staple shelf hoppy American saison for me; unfortunately, I don't as much musky funky Brettanomyces character as I would like, which will probably develop over time because Brett was only added at bottling; also with a nice price tag ($13.99/bottle) for the DMV

TOTAL - 43/50
