Notes/Commercial Description:
Saison-Brett, based on our very popular Tank 7, is assertively dry hopped, then bottle conditioned with various yeasts, including Brettanomyces, a wild strain that imparts a distinctive earthy quality. Though this farmhouse ale was given three months of bottle age prior to release, further cellaring will continue to enhance the “Brett” character, if that's what you're after.

750mL into tulip. all by myself. 2013 vintage, best by 03-02-2015.

A: slightly hazy. head is voluminous, the carb is vivacious. cant pour more than two inches without the foam becoming unmanageable. great retention and lacing.

S: a mild sweetness and a little bit of black pepper. a bit of barnyard, but just a touch. smells like a rustic saison without being aged a touch.

T: dry. very dry. the brett has taken hold but not fully. a little bit of barn flavor, but it is minor. would love to have another bottle of this that I could age for a few years. im sure the brett would really take hold and push this brew in another direction. however since I am reviewing what is in front of me.... a little bit of chewy grain. more and more wheat as it warms. more of tank 7 comes out as well. however the brett takes the base brew and dries it out to the point where the medium/full body turns very medium.

M: carb is rich as I expected. medium bodied.

D: really wish I aged this one a bit longer. however since I do not have this luxury I have to enjoy this brew in front of me, which is not hard to do. a very drinkable and refreshing saison. certainly grab some if you can. however with the price tag and limited nature of the brew I highly recommend a bottle of helios or another bretty saison that is more available. while tasty, I think the reserved nature of this brew helps bode high regards.

2013 Bottle Batch 3, Good through 2-2015

A great complex beer. Refreshing for an 8+ ABV. On my shopping list. Is Kansas City allowed to make such a good beer! I love it now, but would love to try a bottle after some cellaring.

A - Pours a light golden/straw color with a white billowy 3-finger head, .

S - Yeast, funk, tartness, grapefruit.

T - Slight bitter and sour, slight sweetness, lemon in the finish, light maltiness, complex.

MF - Well carbonated, creamy start with a crisp finish.

pour was pale yellow with massive gushing head. fairly clear minus the bottom.

faint pale malt. some bread and light spice

aside from the light pale body and spice, there was a very complimenting fruity undertone going on. lots of sweet tropical fruit. a hint of sweetness.

light at easy for 8.5%. mild carbonation

this really was good, drank way too fast

A: Pours a beautiful glowing golden color with a monster white head. Retention is pretty amazing and eventually settles to about one finger of bone white foam.

S: A fantastic mix of musty wet hay and barn with some hints of mango, lemongrass, lemon pepper, faint spicy note and some pear. The brett is definitely present without overtaking everything else here. Really nice.

T: Everything in here just works. Opens with some wet hay, faint wheat, buttery smooth malt and a drawl of funk across the palate. Some grass and pepper hit near the finish and it ends on a dry, peppery hop note that lingers on the tongue. Faint lemon zest, underripe pear and just a touch of booze. Usually I'm not a fan of saisons with ABVs this high, but this is money.

Vintage 2013, poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

A real great looker. Huge foaming and bubble bath soapy head that goes on forever, and never quits with big clumps in the head. Bleach white. Golden lemon body color , nearly clear, with a roaring middle column of fire in the center and slow pin head ones on the side. A nearly perfect looking brew.

Bouquet is incredibly fragrant. Floral notes, slight peppery brett. Sweet fruits of tropical and citrus, some candy like sweet taffy and peppermint. Peaches. A real impressive and diverse nose.

First sip is pure joy. Palate literally explodes with the multi-tude of flavors on the tongue. Calm and pepper brett with hints of tropical mango, peaches, and soft malts. Sweet finish with a chewy and slightly effervescent champagne like quality. Giant floral aromatics on the swallow with a great brett warmth and mild sharpness, finishing with sweet honey on the malt backbone.

This is an incredibly good saison, so glad I finally had a chance to try this beer.
