Saison / Farmhouse Ale |  8.50% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Saison-Brett, based on our very popular Tank 7, is assertively dry hopped, then bottle conditioned with various yeasts, including Brettanomyces, a wild strain that imparts a distinctive earthy quality. Though this farmhouse ale was given three months of bottle age prior to release, further cellaring will continue to enhance the “Brett” character, if that's what you're after.

poured from a 750mL into a snifter

A: golden orange, thick creamy head. lots of effervescent champagne-like bubbles.

S: citrusy, orange peel. a little bready and peppery.

T: first thing that struck me was the lack of any real tartness. i was expecting to pucker some, but the sourness is just not there for me. that said, the taste is still great for a saison. spicy and peppery. much like the smell, get hints of of orange and lemon.

M: creamy, perfect carbonation. perhaps the most impressive trait of the beer.

O: great beer, but i didnt get the sourness i expected from the brett.

I popped the cork on this 2011 release (forgot to save the number) at a friend's new house to beer bless the home. We drank Saison-Brett in imperial pint glasses since the other glassware was packed away somewhere.

Brett poured a beautiful slightly hazed golden-orange color producing a massive white head of assorted bubble sizes which was a bit hard to tame. Lace was there, but not really pronounced.

Lemons, oranges, apples, and earthiness of grains and straw are the dominant aromas. That brett really making itself evident. Maybe a hint of ETOH in the nose.

Big notes of citrus fruits shine bright while an earthy, grainy, buttery side anchors everything together. ETOH lies beneath, but it's there.

A very sprite-like assertive feel. Finish is dry and crisp.

A great saison and much like Tank 7 on which it is based. Probably a great one to age in your cellar. I just didn't have the patience to cellar one.

750ml bottle into a tall tulip

A: Pours a very clear golden color with three fingers if fluffy white head. Retention and lacing are both top notch.

S: Quite fruity and funky. I get strong grapefruit and lemon zest along with lots of funky Brettanomyces. A bit of wheat rounds out the aromas. Once a bit of yeast is poured into the beer, it helps balance the slightly dry smelling beer.

T: The funk really comes out here - musty, barnyard, with a tangy flavor reminiscent of club soda. A nice fruitiness comes through as well - grapefruit and lemon zest. Once some yeast is in the beer, it adds a bit of a chalky flavor that works nicely with the beer.

M: Cery light with very high carbonation.

O: A very nice Saison - dry, funky, and fruity. I could use a bit more character, but this is a great Saison.
