Notes/Commercial Description:
”Do you know what dwells in a glass?” asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Batch 611098 with a best by date of April 2013. Poured into a wine glass.

Cool color: a deep, murky copper. Two fingers of large-bubbled, tan head pop away quickly, becoming a dense top layer that goes nowhere.

Standard aroma. Brown sugar, a little cinnamon, prunes and raisin bread. Maybe some maple and bubblegum as well. Sweet.

In the flavor, there’s lots of booze to mix with the sweet malt. Heaving spoonfuls of candy sugar, a very light bit of burnt bread in the back. Not much in the front, but the swallow delivers very sweet maple, raisin and booze.

The brew has a body like a much lighter Belgian ale, and there’s quite a bit of fizz as it moves about the mouth – the light body bursts into tons of bubbles. Alcohol is well-hidden.

Tasty, but the body's off.

Like what? Trappist-style ales seem simplified to me, but the tangy yeasts and bready mouthfuls of flavor in this bronson are smooth despite the 10.5% alcohol. Really impressed with this number, even considering the enormous amount of decent trappist ales out there. Fantastic beer that I look to make a staple of my summer Tour de France viewing libation menu.

Poured bottle best by 2/14/16 into tulip glass

A-Deep amber color with a fluffy beige head. Great lacing!

S-Big sweet nose of candi sugar, plum, and yeast.

T-Sweet caramel flavors with more sugar, white raisins, plum, some yeast and lots of blooming alcohol.

M-Well balance and well carbonated.

O-Overall a great example of a Trappist quad. Will get some more.
