Notes/Commercial Description:
”Do you know what dwells in a glass?” asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

A bit light for a quad, but it's still an attractive beer. Kind of a ruby/amber mix in terms of color. The head is thick and offwhite, has good retention as the inner part of the head starts to fall first leaving a thick perimeter of lace around the edges.

It actually smells sweet. Dark ripe fruits and candy, grapes and raisin fill the nose.

Really, really good taste...I'm considering a 5 for it. Everything from the nose eventually hits the tongue providing a fruity, yet very beer-like taste. Carbonation, a tinge of hops and a slight taste of alcohol in the finish.

Layers of complexity. It's full-bodied and sweet, but not too much so...just the right amount for this beer. Some spices provide another layer, followed by a little bit of bitter. The finish is both sweet and dry, with lots of carbonation, and a tingle of warmth from the alcohol.

An exceptional beer. I'd have guessed this to be a true Belgian had I not know where it was brewed. Absolutely nothing wrong with this beer, nothing to even nitpick about.

Sixth Glass pours a dark reddish color, with a nice large frothy lacing head. There is a sweet, wine like aroma. There is a rich taste, nice subtle dry fruit flavors, wine like flavors, and a nice warmth from the alcohol. Great body, and very good feel. Overall its a very solid and very tasty quad.

This is a really good beer! It has sharp teeth, so be wary of the bite - the ABV presents itself almost instantly. The taste is similar to many other quads but what makes this one unique is the taste of almond and overt caramel. The mouthfeel and the body are identical in many respects to other quads, but the level of smoothness that this particular one brings to the table is paralleled by few others. It's definitely worth a try. Kansas City has made big strides to match the monks' skills and pallet.
