Notes/Commercial Description:
”Do you know what dwells in a glass?” asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

A) A "tawney port-like" brew, looks wonderful. Light passes through with clumps of dense, fine bubbles. Off white head recedes a bit but still manages to hang around forever.

S) Sweet cooked fruits, bread pudding, citrusy juice. Waft of alcohol....

T) Deliciously sweet, malty and complex with mild hops. Maple syrup with a port finish and did I mention sweet?

M) Sticky syrup with ample fine carbonation. Smooth, alcohol is there but not over powering.

O) Okay, you want me to rate a Belgian Quad?? This is an ever crowded class with the best of the best. I enjoyed this one and will definately enjoy another. And maybe one more after that, but thats my limit....

Like what? Trappist-style ales seem simplified to me, but the tangy yeasts and bready mouthfuls of flavor in this bronson are smooth despite the 10.5% alcohol. Really impressed with this number, even considering the enormous amount of decent trappist ales out there. Fantastic beer that I look to make a staple of my summer Tour de France viewing libation menu.

Poured bottle best by 2/14/16 into tulip glass

A-Deep amber color with a fluffy beige head. Great lacing!

S-Big sweet nose of candi sugar, plum, and yeast.

T-Sweet caramel flavors with more sugar, white raisins, plum, some yeast and lots of blooming alcohol.

M-Well balance and well carbonated.

O-Overall a great example of a Trappist quad. Will get some more.

Pours a hazy medium brown with copper tones and a dense, frothy khaki head that slowly dissipates, leaving light lacing.

Aroma is raisins, figs, dates, plums, bananas, and dark candi sugar. Very rich and sweet.

Flavor reflects similar notes, but the slightly sweet brown sugar backbone finishes fairly dry. Clove, soft prunes, dates, and muted raisin add complexity. Banana dominates as it warms.

Body is fairly thick, with prickly carbonation and noted alcohol warmth.

Fairly complex brew. Nice dry finish prevents it from being cloying, and the esters are yummy. A little hot, this would age well.
