”Do you know what dwells in a glass?” asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Pours brown, or reddish brown, with lots of carbonation and a very nicely sculpted three finger head. Aroma is subtle profiles of wood, malt and dark fruit. Taste is, honestly, a bit of a let down with the mouthfeel being thin and some grain on the back end of the profile. It is not quite what one expects from a quad. This is more like a brown ale. ABV is not noticeable.

12 ounce bottle poured into a chalice.
ENJOY BY 04 JUN 2025
L: A lively chestnut brown pour, two inch ruddy tan head head with decent retention.
S: Malty bread upon pouring, then raisin with light banana and clove, hints of tobacco as it warms.
T: Sweet and malty raisin and prune flavors lead, some alcohol, earthy with mild bitterness, medium sweet , drying quite a bit for an easy finish.
F: Medium weight, some carb and alcohol bite up front, finishes smooth with some warmth, slightly tongue numbing.
O: Really good flavor, nice sticky sweetness that cleans up quick, rather easy drinking for 10+%.

Poured into a St. Bernardus chalice. Nice dark-amber color. 1.5 fingers of tan head. Needs a touch of sweetness to overcome the overwhelming hoppy bitterness on the finish. A little too boozy and a bit too carbonated. Nice try Boulevard but way too Americanized. Sometimes you need to just stick with the classic recipe.

12oz bottle into a Tulip glass.
LOOK is dark-amber with 1.5 fingers of tan head. Retention is average leaving a collar.
SMELL is slightly below medium in strength. The smell has stone fruit, malt, candied sugar, coriander, allspice and a bit of yeast. It smells fairly sweet.
TASTE is medium-hige in strength. The taste has the flavors in the smell, but it is far less sweet, and more balanced and dialed back than the aroma.
FEEL is moderately thick. It is moderately creamy, carbonation is just beluw medium, and astringency is low.
OVERALL, it is a Quad with an outstanding flavor.

Held a slight head. Not the best looking beer, nice color but slightly cloudy. Has the basic flavors of a Belgian, just not as rich as the real thing. Can definitely taste the abv. Has a good after taste in the mouth, maybe that's the abv. Definitely improved after it warmed up a bit.

Mahogany color, minimal head. Molasses scent and taste. Some spice and malt flavor. Quite boozy. Nice feel. Decent effervescence. Not bad, but a little muted for a quad, aside from the alcohol taste.

Many thx to CarolinaCardinals for this bottle!
A - Pours a deep ruby, garnet color with perfect clarity and dense light caramel colored lacing with a matching thin foam resting on top.
S - Bready malt with dark fruit and alcohol.
T - Sweet caramel malt base from start to finish with some hits of dark fruit, brown sugar, and finishes on the sweeter side.
M - Silky and smooth texture with some warming in the back of the throat as it slides down the pie hole.
O - This is a really beautiful looking Quad!
