Notes/Commercial Description:
The classic India Pale Ale is a traveler’s beer, aggressively hopped to withstand the long, hot ocean voyage to the British East Indies. Our Double-Wide I.P.A. also travels well, and is right at home in the most exotic ports of call of the Midwest. While this modern-day prairie schooner may not resemble a graceful sailing sloop, our liberal hopping regimen does make her virtually “twister-proof,” with toffee and caramel notes balancing out the lingering bitterness. Enjoy this beer fresh to best appreciate the complex blending of hop aromas, ranging from minty to citrusy, with subtle hints of pine.

750 ml corked and caged bottle

dark copper, hazy, amber highlights. big white head. good head retention, leaves rings of lacing.
mostly citrus hop flavor in the aroma, plus a little sweetness. Nice malty backbone in the taste, so it's not bitter. hoppy aftertaste, a lot of orange. slick mouthfeel, a little thicker. moderate carbonation.

A new beer to PA, not sure if I'd spring for another bottle, but if on tap I'd definitely order.

A: Pours a hazy orange-ish copper in color with light amounts of fine particles in suspension, light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass, and just a hint of amber highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy tan head that very slowly reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of sweet caramel malts and pine + citrus/grapefruit pith hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of sweet caramel malts with a light amount of biscuit malts. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of pine + citrus/grapefruit pith hops which impart a moderate amount of bitterness which lingers.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness with a light to moderate amount of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Overall, while this beer is sweet upfront and bitter in the finish it is pretty well balanced. This is a big DIPA and definitely more of a sipping beer. Enjoyable but certainly not one of the best that I have had in the style - I favor less piney hops in my IPAs/DIPAs.
