Notes/Commercial Description:
The classic India Pale Ale is a traveler’s beer, aggressively hopped to withstand the long, hot ocean voyage to the British East Indies. Our Double-Wide I.P.A. also travels well, and is right at home in the most exotic ports of call of the Midwest. While this modern-day prairie schooner may not resemble a graceful sailing sloop, our liberal hopping regimen does make her virtually “twister-proof,” with toffee and caramel notes balancing out the lingering bitterness. Enjoy this beer fresh to best appreciate the complex blending of hop aromas, ranging from minty to citrusy, with subtle hints of pine.

Thanks to dujayhawk for this one. Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into pint glass (primarily because I failed to read the directions...oops).

A: Hazy, translucent ruddy amber, with a one and a half finger white head and great visible carbonation.

S: Seems diminished overall - kind of weak. But what is there is sweet caramel malt, citrus/orange hops. I'm going to bump up the score a half point from what it would have been, as I suspect the overall impact of the aroma would have been enhanced if I used a snifter as the bottle label requested.

T: Starts with caramel and toffee malty sweetness with some citrus hops, then fades into a nice pine bitterness, and the hang is citrus pith & caramel sweetness. Very well balanced on the tongue.

M: Fairly highly carbonated, medium mouthfeel. Pronounced alcohol presence but stops just short of detracting.

O: A good beer that toes the line between DIPA and barleywine. I'm a little sad I didn't pour it into the appropriate glassware. Recommended to try, but I don't think I'll actively search another one out.

12oz bottle, best by March 20, 2013. Served at around 40F.

Pours semi hazy orange/amber/copper with a large three finger light beige head that leaves rings of lacing and holds a persistent cap. Tons of very active carbonation bubbles flying all around inside the glass.

Aroma features citrus, apricot, a bit of pine, bread and caramel malt. Moderate to good strength.

Flavor is nice grapefruit citrus, orange, fruity hops, some apricot, pine, caramel malt in the middle offering some sweetness, good bitterness on the finish but not an enamel-scraper. Mild alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, with high carbonation.

A - Beautiful dark bone white head with nice retention and great lace. Dark, hazy amber ice tea body.

S - Herbal hops layered with a light, white grape-like tangy sweetness. Nice integration.

T - Bright herbal hops right up front with a beautiful counterbalance of crisp malt sweetness. The bitterness expands through a lightly acidic center, before reaching out to smack you in the face through the finish.

M - Medium/full body with nice carbonation.

O - A bright and lively DIPA; a refreshing change from the thicker, sweeter standards of the style.

My mother picked this up for my cookout. 5-12 bottle date poured into alchemist glass.

A Gigantic slight slight red head goes gushing to the top of the glass, easily 4 fingers. Head has very nice retention and eventually leaves great lacing. Body is a hazy deep orange almost amber in color. 4/4.5

S Good amount of malt in the nose. Sweet citrus and some earthy hops as well

T Really nice balance. A wave of biscuity malt comes forward along with some sweet citrus and almost candied sugar. pretty sweet. Sweet turns bitter toward the middle with citrus and even some tropical fruits. Finish is sticky and has a bitterness that lingers. If your looking for a tasty balance this is it. 3.5/4

M Bigger side of medium with smaller carbonation. Somewhat sticky on the finish.

O Pretty tasty DIPA that's well balanced and looks fantastic. I always like my DIPA much hoppier but this was still very tasty.

Got this one from kjyost this past summer. Thanks for the trade man!

From a 12oz bottle into a snifter
Best by 2 May 2012. A couple months off

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, looser looking, cream white head with decent retention. Hazy burnt orange with medium levels of carbonation. Half wisp remains until the end leaving some dots of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: A nice nose of pale malts, honeydew melon, and lots of pineapple notes. Some piney notes as well, but this is more about the fresh, fruity melon aromas. Very nice.

PALATE: Pale malts, piney flavors and some sweet melon up front. Pineapple again and some floral notes at the swallow. Bold and very persistent finish of sweet melon, bitter pine and floral hops. Green fruits as well, like green apples and pears, as well as a light spicy kick, much like a Belgian triple. Very flavorful, fruity, hoppy and interesting.

PALATE: Medium body and higher levels of carbonation. Light on the palate, creamy, goes down fine and finishes with a touch of dryness.

OVERALL: I don't normally review IPA's past their due date, but this one was great. Like a cross between an IPA and triple, this one was fruity, hoppy and spicy all at the same time. Very interesting, flavorful and enjoyable. Glad I had a chance to try this when I did. Thanks again kjyost!
