Lately it occurs to us that if, back in 1989, you planned on starting a brewery in the back of your carpentry shop, you'd been wise to seek out someone like Harold “Trip” Hogue. A collector of ancient Volvos, Trip was well qualified for the make-do engineering required to coax recalcitrant equipment out of retirement and into making the first Boulevard beers. Today, he is our longest-tenured employee. We offer this rich, golden Tripel in grateful tribute to dedication, everywhere.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle w/ a batch # T10092 & bottling date of 4/11 into two glasses; a 10 & 20oz. snifter. Cork pops open very easily w/ lots of carbonation. Into the 10 oz. glass it has about 3-4 fingers of head that very quickly erodes into a slight layer of a white head quickly fading into nothing. Color is a light orange, straw tinged color w/ it being pretty cloudy.
The nose has that Belgian yeast, bready funk that Boulevard is known for. Apricot, some very complex light colored fruit aromas come to mind with this.
Taste is of orange mixed w/ apricot, mixed w/ yeast!! I'm a big fan of their beer for this Belgian yeast character that they use. Sweetness is the most prominent of the factors jumping out at me w/ this. An herbal hop presence is noted. Has a small warming effect on the back end of this from the alcohol & I'm picking up some pepper on the middle to back of this too. Finish is quick & typical for this style.
Mouthfeel is a medium. Very nice overall w/ everything that has gone into it.
A second pour into the large 20 oz. snifter produces even MORE bready yeast in the nose! There are a fair amount of little "floaties" from the yeast but not too bad. Nothing I'd kick up a fit about. Some stickage of the head but not much lacing as has been my experience w/ Tripels. Peppery, yeasty, apricot comes to mind again. Still some alcohol burn on the back of this one. Drinkability is high.
I've read that this is a very good interpretation of the style. While I don't have a lot of experience w/ the Tripels or even some of the Belgians for that matter, I have to say I really enjoy this beer. Now I have a solid idea, from this & some others, what to look for in a Tripel. Prosit!

[Original rating 2012-12-25] Pours clear gold/orange with a small white head that disappears quickly, leaving no lacing. Nice carbonation bubbling up from the bottom of the glass. Aroma of malt and fruit. Apples, stone fruit, straw, bread. Taste is sweet with a bit of alcohol, long sweet finish. Nice thick, oily mouth feel.

Notes of pear, peach, and warm bread throughout, with a hint of white pepper. Faintly sugary maltiness. Shimmering yellow-gold in the light, and capped by a mountain of creamy white head. Sweet malt dominates the flavor with hints of fresh-baked biscuits, spicy pears, and alcohol lurking behind a wall of ripe pears and honey.

12 oz bottle. Smells of pine and nice pot resin. This is an average pale ale. There’s nothing unique here. It’s drinkable, nothing more.
