Notes/Commercial Description:
Lately it occurs to us that if, back in 1989, you planned on starting a brewery in the back of your carpentry shop, you'd been wise to seek out someone like Harold “Trip” Hogue. A collector of ancient Volvos, Trip was well qualified for the make-do engineering required to coax recalcitrant equipment out of retirement and into making the first Boulevard beers. Today, he is our longest-tenured employee. We offer this rich, golden Tripel in grateful tribute to dedication, everywhere.

Mmmm, this beer be good!

pours a fat head, pretty clean white color.

I smell biscuits, that oh-so-delectible belgian yeast funk and a side of fruit.

Taste is killer, might not be the most complex Tripel, but is is very approachable and has high drinkabilty. I think I could easily finish a whole 750ml by myself, but alas, I guess I can share like a good little beer monkey. Alcohol is well hidden. Damn near perfect in my opinion, but I have always had an affection for Boulevard beers...go Chiefs and Royals!

Try this with an apricot stilton and you will not be dissapointed.

Long Stange Tripel – Tripel (9.2%) - Boulevard Brewing Co. (Missouri)
☆☆☆☆

App: Beautiful, golden-apricot pour with a serious two finger head that persists nicely. Very cloudy, with noticeable sediment and steady carbonation. Tons of that sticky, dense lacing you expect from belgian styles.

Smell: Warm creamy esters very forward. Aromas of apricot, lemon, and an orange blossom like floral aroma. The esters are very forward, hiding all hops and all but a touch of graininess.

Taste: Slightly sour on the foretaste with spicy hints of white pepper that comes through with apricot and citrus rind. Not out of line for what you'd expect from the nose. Esters even more present in taste, with some low alcoholic flavor. Hops bitterness comes through subtle and pleasant after swallowing. Balanced, considerate, and well crafted, but not my favorite tripel.

Mouth: Very actively carbonated which makes an otherwise solidly medium bodied brew feel that much lighter. Alcoholic warmth is present, especially after swallowing.

Home tasting, 750ml bottle into Snifter. 4/10/14.

"Well, the first days are the hardest days, says master mechanic Trip Hogue, one of our first employees. We gratefully dedicate this rich, golden Tripel to all those who keep on playing in the band." Brewed in the style of a Belgian Tripel. Available as a year-round 12 oz. 4 packs, in 750 ml. bottles and on draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Boulevard tulip. Served above 59º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours an explosive white-gold head head of a crisp, frothy consistency that retains very well with light, spotty lacing. Body tone is a very hazy golden yellow with moderate carbonation and cloudy sediment. 4.25

(Smell) Aroma consists of mildly sweet wheat malts and biscuity pale malts for some body with a mild Belgian spice in the aroma. The aroma is very clean. Potency is medium. 4

(Taste) Bready pale and wheat malt generate a moderate sweetness that follows through with a delicate yeast spiciness, finishing with a touch of cider esters and alcohol. The simplicity is notable against others in the style, but such may be desirable for fans of a traditional Belgian Tripel. 4

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, fluffy and peppery. Carbonation adds some mild spritely carbonation for a soft crispness. Body is medium+ for the style, medium overall. Well balanced- an appropriate level of malt and fruity sweetness is well countered by peppery spice, tart fruit notes and the slight touch of alcohol. Alcohol presence is moderate, accented by the mildness and simplicity of the flavors. 4

(Overall) Long Strange Tripel is overall a very enjoyable, yet simple Tripel with some mild, but expected roughness around the edges. I somewhat prefer Boulevard's other Belgian-styled offerings, as I find many slightly better built. However, Long Strange Tripel would certainly be a viable option for anybody looking for an enjoyable, traditional Belgian Tripel. Highly drinkable. 4
