Style | ABV
Quadrupel (Quad) |  11.80% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel's share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Bottle #7570 from Batch 2011-1.Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A-Pours a murky,maroonish-brown with 3 fingers of sturdy and slowly dying, light tawny foam.Sticky, spotty lacing was left on the glass.

S-Initially,I get tart cherry,Belgian spice(Cardamom,some clove),vanilla,raisin/fig,tobacco and a touch of bourbon.

T-Flavors of red wine,tart cherry,dark sugar,raisin,vanilla,Black Cavendish pipe tobacco,toffee and a slightly spicy,earthy finish.

M-Full/medium bodied with a slightly vinous mouthfeel.Slighty chewy and tannic but with well developed flavors.

O-Easily one of the better quads I've had and one more success from Boulevard's Smokestack Series.

Bottle 2013, aged 1 year. Pours a light colored head, at least four-fingers, gone fast, medium lacing. Color of the beer is lighter than most quads, amber and medium dark Carmel tones..the smell is Carmel, and malt, with some fruity hints. Taste is Carmel, vanilla, and candied sugar, with hints of pecan. Light body for the style which makes the mouthfeel pleasant for such a strong abv. Overall really good, just not great. Simple profile for the style. Age on this bottle, and the way Otha's smoothed out, makes me think this one could go much longer and do well. Pair with dessert, sweeter-dishes, beef, venison, red-meat..cheese pairing would be Gouda, cow's milk cheeses.

The beer pours out in a dark reddish amber.

The aroma has a Belgian yeast, dark plum and bright green plum along with sugary sweetness.

The flavor follows with dark fruit, raisins, and caramel. It is a lighter quad with medium minus bourbon that smooths out the beer with a clean drinking back end.
