Style | ABV
Quadrupel (Quad) |  11.80% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel's share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Served in a Dirty John's tulip pint glass.

Been a long time since I was able to enjoy a bottle of this stuff. It pours a murky brown topped by a bit more than a finger of tan foam. The nose comprises light rye bread, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar, and a tough of mild cherry way in the background. The taste brings in more of the same, along with some oak. The bread is stronger now, and the cherries come through as a sort of vague tart cherry-ness pervading the general backdrop of the proceedings. (Yeah, that makes nothing but sense, right?) The body is a strong medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a lightly grainy feel. Overall, a rather enjoyable brew, one that thankfully doesn't overdo it on either barrel or cherry aspects. Good times.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into an oversized wine glass. Head starts out as fizzy on the initial pour, but quickly settles into a large fluffy tan head. Deep amber-brown body.

Some cherry and a lot of bourbon in the nose, with typical quad notes lurking in the background. Definitely some alcohol present in the nose as well.

Tastes wonderful and exactly how you would expect. Definitely a quad backbone with bourbon and cherry vanilla floating on top. Some pepperiness, probably from the higher ABV.

Mouth seems a pinch thin, but swirling in the glass helps.

A really great beer, enjoying the last night in our current house. Lots of memories here, and this beer will be one of them.
