Into my challice the BBQ pours a very dark, toasted toffee color. Very hazy, with amber radiance around the edges. a nice half an inch worth of foam that dissipates fairly quickly.
Smells very much like strong booze, the bourbon barrel aging is definitely detectable, and has imparted a strong bourbon characteristic in the smell along with cherries. I can also detect quite a bit of oakiness.
Wow, this is a big beer. sweet dark cherries are very revealing up front, thick malt sweet malt build in the middle, and then the booze flavors hit and it's nearly enough to take your breath away. You can definitely taste that 12% abv. The souring of the cherries balances this brew out quite a bit. Very well balanced despite the bold alcohol content.
Full bodied, good carbonation. Thick and syrupy in a good way. The alcohol will definitely warm the back of your throat. the cherries leave a sour tang in the mouth that lingers in the end, i find that pleasant.
Honestly, this beer isn't all that drinkable at all. It's definitely a beer for sipping. I would have rather split the 750 mL with another person, but i didn't know anyone that was interested so it's up to me to polish it off on this New Year's Eve. almost 30 minutes into it and i'm not even half way through it. Great tasting beer, but very daunting!

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into an oversized wine glass. Head starts out as fizzy on the initial pour, but quickly settles into a large fluffy tan head. Deep amber-brown body.
Some cherry and a lot of bourbon in the nose, with typical quad notes lurking in the background. Definitely some alcohol present in the nose as well.
Tastes wonderful and exactly how you would expect. Definitely a quad backbone with bourbon and cherry vanilla floating on top. Some pepperiness, probably from the higher ABV.
Mouth seems a pinch thin, but swirling in the glass helps.
A really great beer, enjoying the last night in our current house. Lots of memories here, and this beer will be one of them.
